Really surprised how much I enjoyed PMQs today. It was a breath of fresh air after all that Johnson frat boy shite. I may fundamentally disagree with Truss, but if today was anything to go by then at least she is willing to engage and answer questions and not resort to name calling or answer by crowing about something utterly unrelated and 'world-beating'.

Her style also helps Starmer as he's got someone to actually debate with which means we get a much better sense of where the dividing lines are. His getting her to reject any windfall tax on principle worked well in positioning labour's concern about not burdening future tax payers with enormous bills.

There was also a good range of questions which showed that unlike Johnson she actually reads stuff and is abreast of what's going on across the different depts.

Yep, definitely refreshing.

didn't watch, but opinion I have read seems to be same as yours, she did pretty well and makes a nice change from Johnson.

There was actually policy discussion! Hurray! You are right it was refreshing to watch. We’ve headed back to the old days of the different ideologies defining these sessions it looks like.

As we said before though the Tories will still have the easy ride with that. Labour still need to be careful and clearly articulate how they will fund their policy ideas.

sure...but labour have pledged to spend billions on green stuff, right? and they're going to be asked where that money is coming from, and apparently the answer is borrowing...will be easier to say that now.

They said that the money would be coming from closing tax loopholes for certain businesses and relieving private schools of their charitable status.

Osborne is a dick, I'll never forgive him for fucking up solar with his budget in 2015 (I think...) at just the time when it was no longer seen as the 'hippy' thing to do and instead the average joe in the street was considering it. Just an atrocious and pathetic ideological decision especially given where we now are 7 years later.

There is an in-tray from hell awaiting Truss, she did okay today but after Johnson the bar was low. Let's not forget she's herding cats in her party and if she manages to deal effectively with each of the major issues facing the country without slipping up or her party imploding then she'll have proved herself a remarkable leader.

There are sooooo many problems that are coming down the track that it seems unlikely she'll be gurning in the HoC for much longer. She did well today, we can give her that, but after tomorrow's energy announcement and all the promises she made today (sorting out ambulance waiting times etc etc) there is plenty that will come home to haunt her pretty sharpish.
