In other news hidden yesterday......

"The UK has not signed up to a statement from a group of countries pushing for faster global action on climate change.

The High Ambition Coalition was backed by 17 world leaders in its call for swifter cuts to carbon emissions.

The UK, a founding member of the group, has been accused of abandoning climate leadership for not signing the statement or speaking at the summit.

A government spokesperson said the UK "remains a world leader" on climate change and delivering net zero.

"We have achieved the fastest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the G7- cutting them by 50% since 1990," the spokesman added.

Despite not signing the statement, the UK "will continue to work with international counterparts" to fight climate change, the spokesman said.

The High Ambition Coalition released the statement on Tuesday, on the eve of a major UN climate summit in New York."

I don't go particularly out of my way to be green, but on the whole I imagine I don't do too badly. I'm not a huge meat eater, I don't drive, and I'm not a big consumer of fashion or things like that.

I think I should do more in terms of politics as @Crazyfool01 was talking about. I don't think posting here counts 😂 But I'm not even sure what I could do that I feel would make any difference. My area is undoubtedly going to be Labour, so yeah...

I did this

https://co2-calculator.climatehero.me/

I was 100% honest - except I did not say my flights are business which it allowed me to do - and even with those flights the score was 3.4 tonnes a year.

So 25% below average even with the flights and when they stop we will be a lot lower than that.

Can we do better, yes we can.

Will we?

Yes we will.

Try the test, be honest and don't like some do, just pick on one part of a whole to try and make points.

if everyone made a small change would make a big difference...eat less meat, take fewer car journeys, fly less, buy less crap.

Sensible - but I corrected one bit............................ less crap is for life, not just Christmas

People will always be happy to see additional tax on stuff they don’t use.

Ill be honest, I don’t want additional taxes on flying at all, I’ve been on about 20 flights this year at least. I’m aware it isn’t good for the planet but call me selfish if you want- I want to see the world a bit while I’m younger. Would be a tough job getting to say Korea without a plane or 3

They have said no to any tax rises........ apart from the non dom stuff. They really have given themselves no room for manovre.

That's kind if easy to get around. When in they can say they had not been given sight of how sh*t things look so have to. Or lots of stealth tax

i haven't flown for 25 years to save the planet (don't drive anymore), but use taxis.

The BoE have started to see sense and have voted to keep interest rates at 5.25%. Whilst this till be a relief to many that even more hardship won’t be inflicted it’s still not enough as the Bank needed to cut rates to keep the economy a shot in the arm.

Baby steps at least I guess.

I was amazed at mine. I am a bit of a green nazi usually but I am in temporary accommodation atm. I don't get out the house so I don't use taxis or public transport but I generate a lot of plastic as I am only able to use the supermarket both across the road and delivery. But I still buy uk and seasonal. Came in at 3.2.

yeah, people say all sorts of sh*t in manifestos and then break them. Remember the 2019 manifesto?

So, I reckon Starmer will tax the f**k out of everything like some mad tax man.

Does that mean I win?

I do love a good quiz - I got 5.2. I share a house with someone who drives, which I answered about, so I think that pushed me above 5. I'm pretty happy with that though, and really like that website as its got me thinking about little things I could do to improve, so thanks for sharing.

I thought interest rates were definitely going up to 6% or something?

This was the thinking a few months ago (that we'd hit 6 sometime early next year), but the last few rounds of good news regarding inflation have changed this. I think market outlook had already revised down to a peak of 5.75 at the last check-in before yesterday.

I'm in the same camp as fray I think though, in that I think it might be a bit premature to be "sticking." Hopefully it all works out, but if it doesn't, we could still see 6% in Q1/Q2 next year.

it was a close decision apparently. I guess depends what happens with inflation and economy/jobs etc over the next few months.
