Hahaha, should see the look on my Sons face when I tell him to put more away

Show him what 100 quid a month invested between the ages of 20 and 50 looks like with a 9 percent average return and see what he thinks then.

Clue : it’s almost a million pounds

100 quid a month is easy for most people too

In fact you get 20% added on in tax relief so would be way more than this in a SIPP

Yeah well they’d have been a bit premature. It’s a very real possibility in like 40 years time when I’ll be retiring. Too many pensioners not enough tax payers and it only looks set to get worse

I was saying that 40 years ago. I still have ten to go and am confident I'll be collecting it .if I don't it'll be due to incompetence and not conspiracy.

I won't be retiring at 55.  I don't think very many will in my generation.  But I can release 25% of my pot tax free and use it for other purposes like paying off the mortgage.  Which in return allows me to start easing back.

Its about me looking after myself rather than having to trust the state or be a burden on it.

It is tax avoidance.  I am avoiding shirt loads! but it fuels my later years and stops me being a burden longer term.

That's a sh*t investment scheme to pay off your mortgage you could have done that in a more efficient way if that has been your plan.

well with pension age increasing and life expentacy decreasing maybe more and more won't make it to pension age.

It's a tiny govt saving. People said the Pandemic would save pension money of course it will have done but any day

Saving will be minimal within total govt spend.

Obviously you'll be collecting it if you're 10 years away, as time goes on it gets more and more likely to not be universal.

thats not how the last 40 years have gone.

but one day it'll come to an end cos everything does eventually. it won't be anytime soon cos any  govt that ends it will be creating a bigger problem than any problem it might feel its solving.

How is it linked to immigration ?   Obviously we had a temp influx of Ukrainians but other than that?

I'd just be interested to see how many of the people who selected one of the two 'more difficult options' in this survey might reconsider their stance if they were faced with the reality of what people were fleeing from. This documentary may be specific to Ukraine, but the light it shines on the horrors of war applies to conflict everywhere.

it will be means tested, then all those mugs who saved from their 20s will fill like right mugs whilst the party people party on with their sexy state pensions.

I don't mean that some sort of gov pension won't exist, just that it won't be universal like it essentially is now

Tis on the stock market, but that is historical.

Not sure it hits a million though

100 quid a month from aged 20-70 at 9 % return is 978k, in a sipp you get tax relief so would comfortably take it over a million even with fees

Ah, you had to 50 in the other post. Makes more sense being 70

Anyway, when's the Rishi Rwanda vote? I have a work meeting but obviously this is a lot more important/interesting.

Probably 7-8 depending on amendments.

Any chance of defeat ? looked earlier and seemed it would go through

Chances are very low sadly as the rebels talk a good game but will probably fall in line.
