When are they going to realise it's not going to stop?

No...but they can and will make it an election issue...stop the boats, stop immigration...and even if they get a few planes of those horrid migrants off the ground to Rwanda or Timbuctoo and there is a deal with France that reduces the boat crossings that could play well for them in the next election.

I guess it will all be about us leaving the ECHR now...is Sunak really going to go there? I hope not.

Does it really work with voters though? It might work with some in the red wall but it’ll turn off the more liberal voters they have down south.

Yes of course, sorry!

😃

I know what you mean though...but sometimes I get a bit sick of the red wall blue wall generalisations...as if everyone up north is working class racist and everyone down south is middle class liberal.

Anyway, this is obviously the tory tactic now, go hard on this immigration/boats thing, try and do another brexit style culture war thing, but as you say not sure it resonates so much now. Everyone is different etc...but I wouldn't be surprised if majority of people do want this situation sorted out, but at same time for these people to be treated humanely and with some respect. I hope so anyway.

I understand the generalisations would be annoying, I should’ve thought before I said that.

I think illegal immigration is a big issue for quite a few voters but this government go about it in ways that haven’t worked and in such crass ways it could turn people off. They seem to have lost the trust of the voters on this according to polls and this new bill probably won’t work either so it’s lose lose.

it's shameful...and kind of fascist.

no so much fascist as tribal, the tribe looking after what it considers it's own.
