Come on then Sunak, where’s the integrity now?

that Led By Donkeys lot have really done a job. Impressive as they were just 4 blokes in a pub a few years ago.

Not sure what Sunak does here...they have to get disciplined I guess...kicked out? more by elections for them to lose? Hancock was probably on his way out soon anyway, right? Brady is? Not sure about Kwarteng...

It makes a mockery of Sunak’s claim that he’ll be all about integrity. He should take the whip away from that MPs pending an investigation.

it's my turn to try bard.....

is trump a moron?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it is a matter of opinion. However, there is evidence to suggest that some people believe that Trump is a moron. For example, in 2018, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reportedly called Trump a "moron" after a meeting. Additionally, a 2017 Gallup poll found that 45% of Americans believed that Trump was not intelligent.

Ultimately, whether or not Trump is a moron is a personal opinion that each individual must decide for themselves.

They haven't broken any rules. If anything it shows the rules need changing (and how gullible/greedy these particular MPs are)

that story shows how much work has to go into a sting like that nowadays, it needs a website as thats the first thing the politicians will check.

You can’t preach integrity then do nothing something morally grey arises. Sunak was the one to claim he was all about integrity.

is it morally grey? It is a lot of money, but it is within the rules, and some Labour MPs also have lucrative 2nd jobs..although nowhere near as many as tory MPs.

Yes I think it is morally grey, for MPs to be charging £1k an hour for 2nd work whilst the government say Drs can’t have a few Pounds an hour pay rise. It’s also morally grey for top MPs of a governing party to be carrying out work where they can in theory influence policy.

Sunak made a big deal out of integrity so surely he should do something about this? He won’t because he was lying.

It’s totally within the rules, which I suspect is sort of the point. Should these MPs be allowed to do this? What should the rules be?

I’d imagine for Joe Public it’s hard to understand what these second jobs look like without context. This isn’t working a few evenings a week to bring in an extra hundred quid, it’s minimal amounts of work (a day or so a month) for what amounts to more than most people’s salary. Then they go on the news and say they understand the plight of the working people. Also they use their platform as an MP to get these jobs.

One thing I did think was a shame, was that they asked the MPs for their rates and then in most cases upped it considerably. For me an MP saying “My time is worth X” was more powerful than them being dangled a totally irresistible carrot.

They’re clearly a bunch of greedy bastards, but can anyone here honestly say they’d turn down £10,000 a day for showing up?

I’ve been trying hard recently to look at things objectively and at least ask myself questions about the other side of the coin. I don’t usually change my mind (especially when it comes to the Conservatives) but it’s an interesting exercise!

So how about this as an alternative take: Providing MPs are carrying out their duties effectively, taking extra money from private companies (as opposed to wanting more money from their MP salary) is totally unrelated to staff pay rises in the NHS. Would it be morally questionable for an NHS Doctor to take an extra job as a consultant where he earns significantly more money for a day a month?

Lots of MPs have 2nd jobs - Tories make a lot more than any other MPs (22 out of 24 of the top earners are Tories). But I'm not sure if the problem is with the amount of time they're spending doing these 2nd jobs, or the amount of money they get.

I guess as has been said, seeing how much these guys can charge as a day rate and still pretend to understand the struggles of the country is pretty rubbish. But if they are being offered this money, as was said above, who wouldn't take £10k just for showing up to a day? And why shouldn't they?

I think the amount of hours they dedicate to the other role is probably more important, but then, the ones spending more hours doing other things I imagine would be where they hold other positions in local councils, or doctors that are still practicing or whatever. Maybe there should be rules about only being able to hold 1 office at a time (regional or local), but I don't think we want to stop doctors from practicing.

…as a side to that question; my take is that MPs should be allowed second jobs, but there should be a vetting process and limits on what they can do, when they do it, for how much time they can do it for and how much they can earn from it.

If someone can offer you a legit £10,000k per day job for one day a month, then it’s wide open to abuse and the buying of influence (which in reflection is probably the point of the LBD video).

We’d definitely have less c*nts in office if it wasn’t such a lucrative business.
