Everyone is loaded. The whole food bank thing is fake news.

Obviously not what I'm saying and you know it. Some people are obviously hard off atm. Just saying it hardly seems like everyone is skint when there's still a sh*t tonne of people out there packing out bars and restaurants every weekend.

What a visionary from the same guy that told all us selfish, greedy fools to stop asking for inflation busting pay rises. Truly a national treasure.

Anyway, we're too loaded...cost of living my arse...nice one bank for fixing that.

Meanwhile Tory MPs are calling on dishi to cut taxes cause that will fix everything.

anyone stupid enough to take out a large mortgage to get on the housing ladder because that seems to be the only way to have any money when you get old, tough f**k suckers. New normal.

Have you been drinking?? Proper old man yells at clouds vibes.

Maybe next year the economy will be f**ked but it clearly hasn't happened yet, I am not imagining how busy places are.

Not saying people were stupid, at the end of the day you're gonna do what you can do to get on the housing ladder. I'm blaming the BoE and Gov for facilitating the madness with crazy low IRs and stamp duty holidays. Anyway, I know you agree with me as you often do but you obviously will argue cause... well it's you and you're strange...

It used to be the aspirational dream to own your own home but now because the BoE and the Tories have decided we are doing too well that is now a mistake. The answer it seems is to go back in time to when rates were low and not buy our homes, if we can't do that then f**k us I guess?

You know that’s because places have no staff ? Pubs shutting on days because they can’t staff the other days , others closed on some days a week because they can’t afford energy costs ? Couple of big festivals not selling out smaller ones closing . I mean surely the figures speak for themselves ?

Genuinely not my experience, places are busy where I am. What figures do you mean? I don't know of any pubs that aren't open every day, that's my experience. You're more rural than me though. Not seen any evidence of big fests struggling compared to any other year.

Nurses using foodbanks , how much have they grown in the last 10 years ? Obviously they are fine though

Again, not saying that everyone is fine- I am saying that a huge amount of people are still flushed with cash and it shows. I'm just saying it's hardly 2008 yet is it? Maybe 2024 will be grim, I dunno.

Tbf the economy is booming at the moment, you can't move at the moment because there's people partying in the streets with bottles of champagne. Plus all those news bulletins that claim it's 'roaring 20s'.

Everything is fine.

You can both keep ignoring everything I'm saying to try score a point but it achieves nothing. You're totally kidding yourselves if you think bars and restaurants aren't still very busy and despite people feeling the pinch, plenty of people are still doing alright cause either A) it takes time for these things to feed through the economy or B) they're older and mortgage free so higher IRs mean they have more cash not less

Big festivals not selling out and smaller ones closing has been going on since I have been attending. Glastonbury nearly didn't sell out one year. Loads of reasons it happens outside of the cost of living.

There's plenty of bars and pubs in central Bristol that close Monday/Tuesday, and/or don't do lunchtime/afternoon opening outside Fri-Sun.

Ok fair enough. But if you're cutting about Bristol at the weekend does it give the impression that the economy is in ruins and people have no cash to spare?

"No cash" and "less cash" are very distinct.

A really key thing about the part-time closure though - lots of hospitality has gone from having say, 800hours/week between ~30 staff - to ~500hrs/week between ~22. The Monday/Tuesday close isn't just based around their own business - it's also the "hospitality weekend" and those staff can't then afford to go to other places and spend money. A lot of working poor have had incomes go down by ~1/3 while costs have gone up by ~1/3.

The middle classes still have cash - but they're going to cheaper places, or going out less often. They've not stopped going out, but they are skimping a bit.

In general, the average person is ~£300/m skinter. If that's a middle class family? That's taking the kids out for pizza + cinema once a month not once a week, having one of the weekly wine nights at someone's house instead of in a bar, and a luxury from a shop less each.

If what you say is true then I’d expect to be in a recession by now, this rampant inflation has been going on for at least a year now.

What I see is mobbed airports, people going on holiday but also having to pay 5 quid for a tub of Lurpak too
