Generally believed to be because the wording in the report changed. I think last month it was we expect inflation to be 3.3% in the 12 months time to now we expect inflation to be 2.8% in 12 months time. Lower inflation would mean rates coming down sooner.

I thought the wording was that interest rates may have to stay high even as inflation drops...?

yeah, but the point Lost keeps telling me and that I keep ignoring was interest rates could/should/might keep pound strong which will keep price of imported food/energy down. Bailey never mentions this bit so must be a nudge nudge wink wink those in the know sort of thing.

It’s not working though, as the shortages of stock/supply is the issue so those business will just keep their prices high.

They keep doing the same thing and expect different results or it’s having the effect they want 😉

But a lower peak. 5.7% vs 6.5%

what else do you want them to do?

I am not the government, nor am I in charge of fiscal policy but if I were, as in many other countries, I would use the independent bank to take various actions. If you listen to the meetings/press conferences they often suggest they could do more if they were allowed. But they are not allowed.

I listen to the experts, those who know what can be done.

Next problem with green crap...pylons.

There have been pylons in the UK since 1928.

Few have had an issues with them and certainly not since the 1980's. There has never been concerted efforts to 'not have them' and they have never been 'green crap'.

Today though those who want everything to stay the same and question if climate change is real suddenly hate what they have had for all of their lives.

What do you think of this view?

It already has pylons, but most people will not even see them as they really do not 'blot the landscape'.

Locally led by our Tory MP they are campaigning against what has been there for 50 years saying it will ruin the views and instead they should bury the cables.

To bury cables you need a width of a 6 lane motorway the entire length - good luck with that over the hills and not ruining the countryside.

I beg to differ there have been numerous protests and moves to try to get lines put underground. When I was studying Environmental Protection I helped a friend on a potential windfarm project. Pylons where a big issue especially given the uncertainty over health effects.

Differ you may - but in my life I have, until now, never seen or heard any campaigns against what we have had for years. Locally the campaign ignores what is already here and just says we will ruin the landscape...... the landscape that already has pylons and has had for 50 plus years.

There will need to be a lot more pylons.

If what you say is true then I’d expect to be in a recession by now, this rampant inflation has been going on for at least a year now.

What I see is mobbed airports, people going on holiday but also having to pay 5 quid for a tub of Lurpak too

We're only technically not in a recession due to profiteering growth at the top.

So I found out today that affordable rents are nothing of the sort. Aimed at low incomes they are 80% of the market value rents of the area although the properties are still classed as social housing. Got a knock back as my income is less than 30k and housing benefits would only cover half the rent. Since when is 30k a low income especially as minimum wage is 20k. So much for helping those on low incomes.

Had a real interesting chat with the housing officer about the whole thing and apparently Labour want it gone. (The tories introduced it in 2011 to cut housing grants so social providers have to borrow)

Anywhere we need to really overall the social sector.

There's no issue as the Tories have rebranded food banks as food pantries , oh and Airport Travel is 75 % of pre pandemic levels ... source CAA website

Our Tory MP sees the success of our local foodbank (as in number of people helped) as a great success and something to be proud of.

Our local Tory is a Twunt.

worse than Putin?

Discuss.

So, he wins the republican candidacy, is convicted of at least some of these charges, wins the presidency, pardons himself. Bedlam. It is written.

putin has a plan, and is actually a dictator -  trump is winging it, and dreams of being a dictator.

Trump's is to make America Great Again.

I guess there is some symmetry there.

make it laughable again.

just listening to 'any questions' on radio4, reckon the tory line in an election is going to be about labour wanting open door immigration.

Not cause of lack of demand though, because there’s less flights and due to post covid staff shortages etc
