Starmer reminds the audience of Labour's five missions:

  • Economic growth - more environmental destruction
  • Clean energy - hopefully
  • The NHS - good
  • Safer streets - more draconian laws?
  • Breaking down barriers to opportunity - no idea what this means

I thought they'd ruled out increasing capital gains tax? If not they should make it the same rate as income tax ans scrap the srperate allowances.

I think Reeves ruled it out and the  Raynor un-ruled it out.

But yes, completely agree, we have disgracefully low CGT rates.

recruitment back from private sector needs to happen also

that would require some huge structural changes - where a private company is running a hospital( as is south bristol community hospital) all of the staff work for that private company.  if they want those staff back to the nhs they'll have to amend the hospital management contract.

i was in that hospital when the private company took over - was just one member of staaff who refused to work for them as far as i know, and the whole place turned to chaos with sh*t management.
