The same Boris Johnson that lied to Parliament when he said there was no parties.

It's possible that Johnson won't receive any police fine, he'll bullshit his way out of it with his fancy lawyers, and then he will say he has been vindicated and MPs will stick by him. Not sure about public though...I expect things will move on, and cost of living and forever will they won't they Russia/Ukraine will be the dominant story through the spring.

Or he'll get a fine or whatever, and then it will be down to if enough MPs decide now is the time to get rid, and they have confidence in Sunak/Truss/Hunt/Mordaunt as next leader.

Meanwhile...Met police doing this investigation are looking for a new boss....

This proves two things. Firstly that she was just chasing a payout rather than justice.

Second point is that something definitely happened that warranted the hush money.

Hmmm.... I dont think that's fair since he's donating to her charity

Takes a LOT to take a case to court against a millionaire. I dont think you can blame a victim to not want to go through it on their own.  Especially since its up the the authorities to prosecute him criminally, and they aren't

Is that in addition to the settlement or instead of? It’s not clear in the text you posted.

according to the guardian that is the settlement.

Isn't compensation (whatever the format) and the destruction of Andrews reputation a form of justice ?

I'm not sure what 'justice' means in the context of a civil suit. His statement says she was telling the truth and was a victim, and he's having to give money to a victims charity. A civil suit isn't going to send him to jail.... I think she did the right thing!

The court case, if it'd got that far, would've been brutal.

Ive been really impressed with what I've heard and read about her. She's come across as pretty brave and very strong. And genuine.

As nice as it would've been to see him lose I don't think anyone can blame her for this.

And let's face it. We all "knew". And now we really "know"

It will work as well.

Fun while it lasted, hey? It’s the hope he might one day get caught and pay for his actions that kills us all.

The Tory MPs will lap it up as well, I just hope enough of the public see through it. It shows the contempt he holds was in though.

It will be up to the public to decide at the next election...

I think you have to remember that the criminal benchmark is "beyond a reasonable doubt" even with a simple fine.

Well not really for FPN. Point is that they are strict liability, so if you did it, you pay the fine.

Politically he's fucked anyway. The polls on him are clear.

If tories do badly in local elections and then if Johnson/Tories are still polling badly by the summer, he'll get kicked out.

I reckon.

I don’t think the Tories will do that bad, purely because the councils are the ones from 2018 where Labour did well so there’s not a huge amount for Labour to gain.

It does definitely feel like Johnson’s got away with it.
