What good would resigning have done? He would have just sat on backbenches and not been able to do anything and wouldn't have been able to take over as leader. Corbyn wasn't going anywhere...

same as it forced johnson from office resigning from the shadow cabinet was about trying to force corbyn from office.

They tried that and it didn’t work. So after the 2017 GE I guess they thought it best to at least try to show unity.

The point is that person doesn’t think they will and neither candidate have suggested they will give much more support.
