How is she gonna cope at PMQs if she can't handle Nick Robinson!?

In 2015, the then prime minister (Cameron) came to my place of work to do one of those w*nky campaign events where he took questions from the factory workers. There was a lot of security and secrecy around the visit but about ten of us “political types” were tipped off that we may want to think of a question.

Two things came up for me. 1) I was MOST excited to meet Nick Robinson. 2) I was the ONLY one on TV not clapping when he arrived to start the event.

Off topic but I am warming to Rory Stewart. I know he is not a game player atm but for a Tory he talks sense. I usually dismiss the Eton/Oxbridge fellows off hand but maybe I am a socialist snob.

As it stands a GE is going to leave a hung government at the least a Labour win at the most. I despair on what is going to happen over the next few years. I was told today by text that my electricity will be higher than someone on  dd scheme by about 100 quid a year. The hardship on food I can cope with. More veggies and oats. But. I spent last year with no heating or hot water due to slum landlords refusing to do repairs. Before you ask. Yes WiFi is important in my house. My son relies on it and it gives me a gateway to have a life (like Neil I had a stroke but I walk with a little limp, no feeling in my right hand but suffer with vascular dementia)

I am holding my son back as at the moment I need his help. Sorry I am waffling

Apparently Germany have been buying gas at any price to fill their huge stores which has pushed up prices...but they have filled their storage quicker than expected so are now scrapping this buy gas at any price thing which in turn could push prices down...good news hopefully, but also good news for Truss, bad news for Putin.

At same time EU say they're going to impose emergency intervention in power market to curb increasing prices.

the limited storage can only be filled once.

No expert but don't these things take years to happen. Those lobby companies have them wrapped around their fingers. Fucking idiots. Invest in other.

Tidal for the future, if that is what they want. I know it will cost a bomb, but our fault for kicking it down the road.

If they need quick fixing then let's fucking spend on insulation and solar

Germany has been filling up its gas storage quicker than expected, but today Russia has switched off supply.

Shame we got rid of a large portion of our store capacity.

they've brought it back. its not very useful anyway cos it can only store a fraction of a year's worth.

plus, not so urgent here as we don't get most of our gas from Russia.

yep, plus we've recently built the infrastructure to mass import LNG from Oman. costing a price fixed a few years ago, so not mega-expensive.

I don’t think we have brought it back. Cameron got rid of a large portion of our storage capacity so they could save a few million.

He's right. It was Rough gas storage which Cameron closed. Its reopening for this winter.

The site was always meant to be repurposed to store hydrogen but we obviously are not far enough down the road in our energy transition and still too reliant on natural gas.

So it hasn’t been brought back yet then?

It also confirms what a colossal failure it was to get rid of the storage in the first place. Another Tory blunder.

Agreed. But that's what happens when you let an autistic Swedish girl set energy policy. We clearly still need fossil fuels.

Much as I despise the tories, hindsight is a wonderful thing and with the wanting to shift away from fossil fuels, removing the storage is something I can understand given the relative stability of gas supplies at the time of the Cameron government

Wow…just wow. This is the response when you shine a spotlight on Tory failures, they lash out at anyone else bar themselves.

It was a wrong decision to save a few million during austerity which was also wrong. They should be held to task for it.

Well it was clearly a tongue in cheek comment. In reality its the fault of politicians from all sides not telling people the truth. There really is no alternative yet based on price per KWH. If we need to transition to net zero then people are going to have to take massive drops in living standards, its that simple.

that wasn't the reason though was it, more just saving money and that energy would be coming from other places like shale, LNG, supplies from europe so they thought no longer needed, which in hindsight is possibly foolish.

Isn't that the same thing? Energy generated in another country goes on their emissions not ours. Similar to sending all our manufacturing out to China. The consumer goods are only cheap because they've been manufactured using energy generated from coal.
