I wouldn't shout it out in a room full of people and expect them to go along with it to be fair. He was doing it for the look of the thing.

So much of this is going to be about being seen to do the thing rather than just doing the thing because that's how you feel.

Neither would I but people are really invested in the Queen so will do different things (I would imagine he was probably half cut too 😂)

The fact they are invested in a rich old lady they've never met will never not completely baffle and astound me. Going to be a very trying time.

As much as I find the hysteria and tears from people who did not have a personal relationship with the queen quite cringe-worthy and a little but baffling, by far the worst lot are those who choose this day to gleefully rub their hands and wish pain and suffering on the Queen with a 'glad she's gone' attitude. A small minority, but vile.

Me too but you know this how some people are in this country, it’s harmless.

I think it’s because it taps into how people feel about death in their own lives. I’m not massively bothered by the Royals but I felt sad since I heard the news and emotional especially after watching Starmers address.

I think it’s because she’s been a constant in peoples lives and makes people think about when they’ve lost someone.

They are using quite good at times like this at finding the right tone and presenting stuff to the kids in the right way.  Will defo be on.  They used to do a really good remembrance day animation I always enjoyed watching with the kids.

I asked my kids today if they felt sad about the queen.  Both said they couldn't care less and just wanted a day off school.  As a raging republican I felt like a proud Dad, as a Dad trying to raise decent kids -  not so sure lol.

Go with your first instinct. They sound alright to me.

I get that the idea of a monarch is a bit weird in 2022 but when you look at the constitutional monarchy's through out Europe United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Luxembourg, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and Sweden. None of them seem particularly bad places to live and weirdly it seems to just work. I'm also quite suspicious of claims something else would be better as 9 times out of 10 it never is.

There's also the fact that she's done her job for 70 years to a standard that most of our politicians couldn't get anywhere near. Even getting out of bed less than 48 hours before she died to make sure it got done.

Had Radio X on this morning. Slightly better than the BBC channels as at least they were still leaning alternative, though with  an emphasis on the downbeat.

Ruined when the DJ started explaining how sad everyone was, and that the funeral will be "the biggest global event of this century"... I mean, we're very likely going to have two more monarchs die this century... But I'm sure it will pale compared to the day that Putin launches the missiles...

Is it though?

Yes it’s harmless, I don’t think it makes people dickheads or knobs or whatever.

Let’s be nice or show empathy.

I respect people's right to be sad but what grinds my gears is being spoke for as if I'm part of a collective grief. I feel as sad about her dying as I would about any old person - sad for the family and then move on. I didn't expect the world to stop for my mum dying. It's just so weird to me that wr are expected to feel a way about it. Lots of us just don't but we just get lumped in.

I actually don't think it's harmless as the bow and scrape to your betters mentality is a huge part of what's wrong with this country. But I can tell people aren't really up for the republican debate today so maybe not the time for it.

This is my issue as well.

The whole nation is grieving etc - no I'm not
