Back on the whole rejoining conversation. This article seems to have slipped by unnoticed. Obviously no plans to rejoin the “EU” but there is talk about joining a separate European based organisation. 😂🤦‍♂️

Yeah, Macron has been pushing this for a while...and I actually could see us being part of this one day, not with current govt, but maybe a future one. I mean, we are still actually in europe whether we like it or not, and EU is still our largest trading partner, as well as all our other links.

That’s not enough, she should show leadership, cancel the trip, call a press conference to restart her col plans and have Parliament back today. But she won’t as she doesn’t care about us.

Blimey. Sounds terribly little Englander. Of course she should be going to important UN meetings.

Can you imagine, british PM snubs World leaders.

Get a grip

Why is Truss going to the US when the cost of living crises needs attention here?

Everyone is so fed up with your utter pish on here now btw.

Like are you seriously that dim that you think it's valid to moan about a PM doing the normal things that PMs do? You're either a committed troll or just plain dumb

I can imagine that, it would give off an aura of decent leadership for a change. Or she could’ve set her Dep PM to head up a press conference today to kick start her plan but there’s nothing just a few sound bites. The Tories are the ones that need to get a grip on the crises, not me.

They have to admit that a tax cut benefits the people who pay the most of the tax that's being cut? Can't people work that one out for themselves?

She can't let a deputy do it or not be around. Now we may understand that brilliant leadership, and cohesive processes means she doesn't need to be there. However, labour would have a field day and more importantly she is Shit. Admit those first big decisions probably best if you are around, however UN conference is already planned

I know it’s been planned in advance but we’ve had 3 months of a Tory leadership contest, 10 days of national mourning and now she jets for a UN Assembly before Parliament is in recess again next week. She could’ve decided to do something, anything today for the cost of living but she didn’t.

I imagine it’s because she wants as little scrutiny as possible for her Corporate Profit Protection Scheme.

maybe many people don't even know what is actually being set out by Truss and Kwarteng, they just hear tax cuts and think ooh that sounds nice, without realising that tax cuts usually favours the better off.

Most of them don't even realise Labour proposed exactly the same thing barely 6 months ago when it was a "brilliant policy" politics is just about supporting your team nowadays.

...but what she is trying to actually sell is the idea that cutting taxes will help stimulate growth and then everything will be awesome.

There is no evidence to suggest this is the case and besides she doesn’t really care about growth. She just wants her rich mates to have even more money than they already do.

It really isn’t hard to sort out the cost of living:

- cap energy prices

- tax energy companies more

- ensure people have more money (scrap NI rise etc)

yes, true...but NI rise could be seen as not the fairest tax rise...income tax better (or some other wealth tax)...but I was not actually against the NI rise...if we are going to fund better social/health care then fair that this comes from some sort of tax.

But now Truss wants to stop this, and then have a load of other tax cuts on top, and still supposedly stick to the health/social care spending commitments....and then on top of this spend 100billion+ on this energy thing, all from borrowing apparently. I am not against borrowing at all...but I think it should be spent on investment and education etc which I think has a better chance of improving the economy in the future, not just hoping tax cuts is all we need. If we really want to redistribute wealth and make this country less unequal, tax cut is not the answer.

Mate, take a breather from this thread, you’re just recycling the same thing over and over again, it’s a little bit man shouts at cloud, the vast majority of us know what the tories do/ want, we get it. Maybe write to your mp or go to London to protest or canvass on peoples doorsteps, rather than just repeating the same thing over and over again in this thread, it doesn’t help you and is getting kinda boring for the rest of us to keep reading the same recycled arguments to be honest

by the way not going to engage into getting into an argument over what I have said above, it is my opinion but seems to be one others share so maybe take a step back and reflect

As far as I know the only things we know about are in the mini-budget are the NI cut and the green levy axe so yes there maybe more on top but the things people are quoting from are about the NI cut.

I just think its funny that an identical policy from two different parties can be evil/brilliant at the same time. Its like an identical penalty call against/for your favourite team.

Nice one thanks for sharing that I called this correctly. Sadly Truss is cutting Corporation tax which will only aid in giving more money for her friends, protecting energy firms profits and giving bankers more bonuses. It’s a shame as there’s a chance to really make a difference here for ordinary people.
