ever voted tory?

If you or Lost hasn't voted tory I will eat my hat.

Only once.. Mainly because I was pissed at Labour going for Ed over David, Ed didn't make it clear enough that he wouldn't go into coalition with the SNP and really I didn't feel the country was in a bad place around the time of the London 2012 Olympics.

I've mainly voted lib dem after Iraq though actually as I voted in the Wakefield by-election I maybe the only one here to return a labour mp to parliament under Starmer.

The IMF stepping in last night is unprecedented for a country like the UK.

It's not, but the other time isn't exactly great, in that the UK had to ask for a bailout from the IMF in 1976, which at the time was the largest ever IMF loan. Economic analysis after the fact suggested a "budget for growth" by a Tory Chancellor in 1972 caused it, even if it was a Labour one under Callaghan who had to ask for the bailout.

Saying that, if the only precedent that can be mapped onto this is a crisis that was at the time considered a humiliation of the nation, it's not a good sign.

Well yeah in my view if something happens once every 40 years then it can fall in that category but I get your point.

Unprecedented in modern times, then. Although a headline invoking this where a financial analyst nicknamed "Dr. Doom" is suggesting the UK could be on course for needing to ask for one... not ideal.

maybe...if Kwarteng had announced in the budget the cost of payng for capping bills this winter...left taxes how they are for now...maybe we wouldn't be in crisis mode?

Who knows?

I mean, if you're gonna do something as big a pivot as they want as their ideal end state, surely you'd do it gradual rather than this odd sugar rush of getting everything immediately and ask questions later. And that would arguably be the case even if the economy hadn't already been showing significant signs of weakness when Boris resigned.

Crazy that you think its bullshit to be honest.  Shows you don't listen enough.  Go search the forum.  If I had voted for the Tories I am sure you could prove me a liar.  I voted Labour at every GE since the first time I could vote.

EDIT : one local election many years ago - only time I have voted Tory.

so you were trolling.

Just saw the highlights of Rayner's speech. Love her. Would love to see her as leader but I know she wouldn't appeal to the swing voters sadly.

She gave a great speech, good bit of comedy in there too.

yeah, I think it was the amount of it...and then suggestions of more post mini budget...spooked the markets.

I KNEW IT!

I'm a social democrat/liberal. I'd class Blair, Clegg, Cameron, Starmer as social democrats. Corbyn is a socialist and Truss a free marketer.

Don't understand subscribing to 1 party when they change so much. What's the Bill Hicks quote? Would you call yourself a Christian if they had a new Jesus every 4 years

ok...well this is where term social democrat is meaningless. To many people Blair/Clegg/Cameron (Cameron especially) are definitely not social democrats, but Corbyn is.

Ok.. How pissed off Owen Jones is at labour then. When he's above a certain level i'm back to voting labour.

and to be honest without coming across all troll or ozanne or whatever, if there is ever a criticism of uk govt policy you post something about either it's bad in timbuktu too, or labour would do same...endlessly.

But yeah, you're a social democrat. We're all social democrats! Yay to social democrats!

There you go then, you are essentially saying you are happy with Tories winning all because of one commentator.

It’s the bad faith arguments that get me, shy Tories is the term.

I think I posted 1 tweet about Germany randomly that wasn't quoting anyone in the politics thread not the only "tweets that say yay labour boo tories" thread.

Isn't that why there was an attempt to restart the other thread because you and Ozanne only try to allow those sorts of posts?
