Kurosagi
Continuing my football distraction Brexit theme: It is so frustrating that Brexit is the narrative to which other countries interpret our current woes, but that we have a tory party that is destroying itself because of it and a Labour party that won't touch it with a barge pole and a public broadcaster that likes to pretend the mess has nothing to do with it. Even if/when labour get in, on current evidence it seems unlikely that Starmer will do anything else but continue to "convincingly act baffled why it has been sinking ever since". Not sure what the life raft looks like in Frum's analogy, is there one? It's certainly not football given that Brighton can't win a game since Potter left (yes, I know, wrong thread). kaosmark2
Johnson will get the support of the MPs he promises a cabinet position to. That doesn't mean he'll only get the support of as many MPs as there are cabinet positions.
steviewevie
Just feels like it has been chaos politically since that referendum. At least negotiations with EU over NI were sort of improving under Truss, hopefully that will continue after whoever takes over. Recents events have completely killed the whole buccaneering brexiter take back control thing. If Johnson does stand against Sunak things could get real messy for tory party. But even then those mps might not support … he needs to be very careful they are so broken now … some of his cabinet will have likely wanted him out last time … unless he goes for some new faces , so won’t take so much to turn if they feel the tide is going away from him

He's weak, and he's trying to work out whether he'll get a last hurrah

Guest
This seems pretty realistic, Labour’s lead will reduce when the PM is in place.

Guest
So will today be the day we see the coronation of Rishi Sunak as our next PM? It’s such a good democratic system we have where rich Tories can just keep appointing our leader.
Crazyfool01
So just Rishi going through then ? What’s happenned to all the other mps votes ? Are they all suddenly going to decide today ?
Crazyfool01
What do Labour have on Rishi ? Partygate … although seemed much less of an issue than Boris …. ? Eat out to help covid …? Rich Rishi ? Or do they just wait for more infighting ? Rumoured Boris was meeting him to sort some kind of pact

Rumoured Boris was meeting him to sort some kind of pact no point trying to attack him on anything from the past, but decisions taken now...austerity etc. Might be difficult for Sunak with all his millions and the country going though all this shit, but his appointment will probably lead to stability in the markets and maybe things will be less chaotic. Just have to see how things go over next few years.

I can’t see Boris and his backers towing the line very quietly … maybe some hush money might work for him … if he’s put in the cabinet will that keep him and his backers quiet ?
