Going by their email last week, it's the announcement by the Valencian regional authorities on Oct 8 but the visa shitshow highlighted in the NME piece above is surely a major factor too. The current covid rules are up to midnight Oct 8 and Oct 9 is the regional day and a holiday here so there is some optimism out there about a further relaxation of the rules. Bit of a legal minefield but they might require the digital covid cert for entry to indoor events.

Viagra Boys have listed the Weekender on their upcoming tour dates - the first act to let slip they are playing? Surprising there haven't been more.

ah that's interesting, thanks.

Sounds like the plot to an updating of the film 'The Lady Killers'.

How much will it likely cost to spend a week in Barcelona including the festival?

One weekend or both? In the latter case.

440€ for tickets, between 100€ and 300€ for flights (if you are from Europe, and depending on flight times). Accomodation really has no limit upwards. We've always taken Airbnbs and have scored a relatively cheap one for just 280€ per person for 12 nights but I'd plan with at least 400€, especially if you are a smaller group.

Food depends. If you have an appartment where you can cook, you can keep it cheap, eating at the festival is not cheap but also not too expensive. But if you wanna go for an all-in holiday there is so many amazing restaurants you could spend a fortune on food alone.

Personally, I put around 1200€ aside for this.

For one week, I had years where I managed with 450, but as everything got more expensive, I'd say you are looking at 650 upwards, since flights and certain side costs don't scale down with the time spent.

Not sure what the relevance of this is?

I suppose the relevance is that anyone attending Primavera now also has the option to see one of the biggest bands of all time play between the two weekends, in the same city.
A$AP Rocky & Thundercat opening too. Would love to see the latter added to the cuitat lineup.

Biggest bands *of all time*? They’re not even in the top 100 commercially.

You’re right though. That’s a very decent pair of support acts and hadn’t realised about them, sorry.

Unconvinced many will stump up the extra €100 odd though, especially having been so spoiled for gigs that week and with the chance to enjoy a tonne of bands the same night (including some quite big names) for €0.

The tour is;

Seville on the Sat, BCN on the Tues, Netherlands on the Friday.

Its possible, but I presume geo-restrictions in the contracts would rule it out.

I feel for them.

They can’t make acts go on overseas tours and domestically there simply aren’t enough prominent bands.

i hear ya - i just don't really fancy the airport stress at the moment - and i definitely would've begrudgingly gone had they not expressly said refunds would be available no questions asked. makes more sense as to why Mogwai were tweeting about Visas last week now...

PS have advised me to email them, saying refunds are still possible, so that's progress. a shame, but be nice to have the ££ back as well...

I'm going to ask for a refund, unfortunately. There's some nice stuff on there but not enough to warrant going to a holiday camp in Benidorm for.

I appreciate they're being transparent with refunds, but I don't have any sympathy for them. This event was very obviously put on sale at a specific time that consumer confidence with ticket sales and events was high, and was always going to be an uphill struggle to pull a decent lineup together given the shifting sands of international travel and touring.
