Modesty Powder
My partner has just pointed out that Julian is just over covid, so the monologue breaks might have been a way to get his breath back.
brosch
Glad y‘all enjoyed The Smile, I had seen them 3 weeks ago already and found it fantastic. Thus I didn‘t go last night - had the best time at Lorde (even better than the last time here), Strokes and a great M.I.A. performance. Can‘t wait for YYYs and Phoenix tonight - it still the best festival after all.

He does those monologue breaks at every show. In fact last night the set was tighter than usual! The set list usually starts at around 17 songs and they end up cutting 3 or 4 due to time and his ramblings and sometimes he just tells the band on stage he doesn’t want to do a certain number. FloorFiller
The lack of Last Nite didn’t seem to go down very well with a lot of people around me, especially when they came out for an encore, getting everybody’s hopes up and then played a song that barely anybody knows. Pretty funny. 1 minute ago, yosoyyoberdi said: He does the monologues at every show but yesterdays one was the shortest setlist this year. Tbf they only had an hour fifteen so probably at least fifteen minutes less than they’d usually get.
yaniv297
Wonder how next year's edition will look like. It seems Primavera have really done a lot to learn from W1 Thursday mistakes - and by all accounts, the rest of the days were all much better - but the basic problem of overselling tickets is just impossible to deal with at this time. Will they learn the lesson and sell less tickets like previous years? I doubt it, it's very rare for events like this to scale back. Especially with their new obsession of setting up Primaveras everywhere in the world. Will people be less excited to go? It seems to me that a lot of regulars share the "magic's gone" sentiment and might skip or try something else this year. That includes me (but still, I'm unlikely to find a festival with a better lineup, especially with no camping, so I might end up back... or just skip festivals entirely next summer and do some proper, non-music related travelling). I'm sure the "build up" thread to 2023 will be a lot less excited and a lot more worried/skeptical than this year was. But honestly, I have no idea how much those internet/social replies actually represents the people attending the festival. And last, I wonder if it will affect the lineup. Surely PS are aware, this is by far their most negatively-received edition ever (I don't recall such furious replies on social ever), I won't be surprised to see some huge names on next year's lineup (my money's on Kendrick) to make people forget this year's issues. FloorFiller
Somebody I met at the festival who’s friend apparently works in the biz has told them that they’ve got some big big stuff lined up for next year headliner-wise. She didn’t know any more than that as obviously their friend couldn’t let the cat out of the bag this early, but something to speculate over anyway. Kendrick / NIN / Massive Attack / Arcade Fire / Bjork / Rosalia. Sticking to my guns.

Modesty Powder
One thing I think was actually improved this year was the VIP placement. Someone here said that paying more should get you comfort, not priority, and it really landed with me. Let the hardcore fans queue for the front rows, and give the oldies (me) a half-decent view away from the crush. The big upstairs VIP place was odd, in that you couldn’t see the stages at all. Going to a festival to watch a gig on a screen feels like music biz types who haven’t been excited about a band since 1990. But you could get a drink there and recover between sets.
kaytee...
I hadn't seen The Strokes since 2011 and they were awful then, could barely hear Julian. So it was actually good to see him in seemingly good spirits. Tone it down a bit and play more songs and they're sorted
Ohad
Vaccinated 4 times (!), still got COVID during weekend 1. Not surprising, tens of thousands in the crowd, each day.. Feeling perfectly good tho. Totally worth it (; Edited June 11, 2022 by Ohad
Limonado
I’m 56 and the two weeks format is quite a torture. They programmed headlines quite late and arrive back to the hotel at 4 or 5 am everyday is cruel. Anyway I’m grateful to come! For next year, if they do not promise to bring vip front pit back, I’ll not buy the early bird ticket!

I've voiced my opinion on VIP before (as a fan I find it pretty offensive that you get some classist thing where the more you pay the better you see and although i could afford it, it's a matter of principle to me not to) but also happy to hear that at least some of you saw a benefit in it. I guess seeing here how many had either VIP or W1+W2 tickets I realized pretty early the ciutat shows were going to be a hassle so really happy we got in for one on the dice tickets so when we saw the lines on monday we decided to not go for it but just pass and see what was going on and enjoyed the city those extra days/nights and that was actually pretty awesome. Day three of covid and still not feeling all too chirpy. Massive cold is finally waning but still a cough and tired. Hope to be able to work remote from monday on but it won't be at full force i have a feeling

JayDiesel
As a quick aside before JayDiesel's incoming W1 and 2 summary next week (bet you all can't wait), think it's interesting to hear some of the feedback on The Strokes/Jules. I can appreciate people being annoyed at his chats on stage, but it's so unscripted and 'live' that it felt really unpredictable and fun. Fairs, I'm a Strokes nut, so would stand and watch 90 mins of Jules chatting with no music, but I'd much prefer that to a v by-the-numbers, know what you'll get show. Speaking of 'by-the-numbers' shows - Dua Lipa was the only disappointment for me across the two weekends (so far, those pesky YYYs could ruin it yet). Her set was fine, but so overly choreographed and rehearsed that it felt more like watching a musical than it did a live show, and I really enjoy a lot of her music. My GF mentioned how it was effectively just watching high-end dance troupes vibe to a Dua Lipa album, and I agree. Compared to the off the cuff Strokes set, it's night and day for me. Modesty Powder
Yes, Rhak, I think it was you who awoke my inner socialist on this. There’s a story that someone hassled Karl Marx for travelling first class on a train. “Shouldn’t you be back in third class with the workers?” Marx replied, “No. They should be in first class with me.” So no VIP at all is the best option, and improve the basic like water and toilets for everyone. Hope the Covid treats you lightly.

Gregorick
Managed to get through the whole night and see Danny L Harles set till the sun came up this morning but after the last 10 (!?) days of music I’m done in. Just gonna casually check out The Weather Station and Arooj Aftab today and then I’m retiring to the hotel for a couple of days of rooftop pool and juice cleansing.
