It's a bit contradictory, in that the Stage has become much larger / busier / more popular than it used to be - which in turn has meant that the rest of the field has become gradually more squeezed and over the course of about 10-15 years or so has turned it from being a kind of mini-festival in itself (with a secondary stage, cafe, food stalls, bookshop, and space to relax) into just another field with a stage and not much else in it.

So people are talking about the vibe of the area, which by any standard is worse, as opposed to the number of people who actually go there for any given act which has probably increased.
Famously the crowd in front of the Pyramid and the crowd down the SE corner late at night are two entirely separate demographics with no crossover between them.
