I don't doubt Flo could sub headline.

People saying they can't get her to sub headline when we had AEROSMITH 3rd down in a 'speical' slot and a pretty much confirmed Mumford and Sons to sub headline (a past headliner) both in 2020.

I think it’s because most people are used to the days where Glastonbury really struggled to pull names in, and they aren’t used to this new era of the festival where acts are knocking on the festivals door to play, willing to take huge pay cuts to do it.

Michael said on that BBC Somerset interview that Emily and Nick have a completely different job to what he had.

Part of my problem with fitting someone like Harry Styles or Florence into a sub spot is then fitting in other acts who look very likely based on their tour dates.

Billie Eilish / Jack White / Elbow
Foals / London Grammar

Macca / Noel / HAIM
Fatboy / Wolf Alice

Kendrick / Lorde / The Specials
PSB / Y&Y

I guess I wouldn’t be shocked if Jack White isn’t there based on already having subbed and not really having much different to offer compared to in 2014. And The Specials could probably move down a spot.

But when have we had subheadliners who could easily headline? Flo in 2015 is probably the closest.

The difference between someone like her and a Miley Cyrus/Katy Perry/Aerosmith is that the latter lot are never getting the call to headline the Pyramid, so they’ve nothing to lose by doing a lower slot if they wanna play.

If Flo subs after headlining previously, she’s giving up on ever headlining again. If Harry Styles subs he’s delaying any chance of headlining.

What if Harry’s team are pretty certain he’s never getting the call? Or they think this is the only chance he could be in line?

Well maybe, but he seems a pretty obvious future headliner atm, especially with the Coachella slot. Those newspaper articles that came out recently alluded to Glasto considering him as a headliner, didn’t they, when saying they thought 2020 was too soon for him?

I agree but replace Jack White with Styles

Interesting thing to consider with Harry:

Coachella didn't get their headliners till 2022 and he has no other festival shows. Is it possible he wasn't actually considering festival slots until Coachella reached out to him - so may have turned down glasto already / not even have been talked to really. Nobody here was even considering him until he got announced for Coachella.

I think its very possible the festival already had their subs sorted before they even considered Harry Styles due to rollovers etc. There's so many sub sized acts about this year - it just seems like even considering him would be an after thought. I think he would accept the slot though, its not going to damage him at all

Or they looked for acts playing festivals and heard he was lined up for Glasto.

Its possible sure but just seems so unlikely given he is still nowhere else. + what Hugh Jass said above ^

Lorde does make sense as a Lana Del Rey replacement, the main thing making me doubt her is her tour dates make her look more likely to play Saturday or Sunday and the usually have a rock act of some sort as the Sunday sub. I suppose there’s better reasons to rule out the other acts though, so that’s what I’m leaning towards at the moment.

I’m certain that Lorde and NGHFB are 2 of the subs (in my own little head).  Got absolutely no clue over the third, Jack White with his dates makes sense I guess but just don’t see it happening

I don't see Jack White doing it either and personally hope he doesn't after the mess in 2014.

This might be a stupid question but Jack White size wise, is he up for it nowadays? If the white stripes played they would be a sub surely and this is just him alone - or is he bigger/the same size alone

Probably not but he still headlines festivals in Europe. It’s similar to Beck in 2016, probably not big enough anymore but his reputation can still get him a big slot at Glastonbury.

The White Stripes would 100% headline if they reformed though.

Fair enough, my mistake I wasn't too sure for white stripes

White Stripes wouldn't sub Glastonbury if they made a comeback, but I also don't think they'd headline either. I think they'd take the bigger money elsewhere and end up in the same bracket as The Strokes. And honestly, it'd probably be a pretty pants tour if they did return... the hype would be big but I don't think the reality would live up to it. They're an act best left in the 2000s for me.

Agreed, there wouldn't be a colossal difference between seeing the White Stripes and watching Jack do their stuff himself.
