No wonder they keep it secret, massively underwhelming. I know it will be ace and I enjoy discovering new music but I’m gutted the Chems aren’t on after people saying they definitely were. This is probably the worse festival line up I’ve seen

Chems was ridiculous for SGP anyway

Our Thursday lineup will be revealed in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'

Hey, I got that reference! 😆 Now, where's my towel...?

I actually thought it looked quite good!!!

Yeah, with the caveats that I was never seriously looking at it as an option, despite all the tickets that were being sold in recent weeks I don't know how much they were (though I always thought SGP was one of the most "the lineup doesn't matter" fests) and the kind of festival that prominently bills a paint fight would have me sprinting in the opposite direction, the absolute howl of anguish seems out of step with what's presented, unless you actually were expecting the Chemical Brothers and Florence & The Machine to appear at a mid-level event (and it seemed weird that the "leaked Thursday lineup" earlier in the thread didn't include someone who had accidentally self-confirmed) If nothing else, there's plenty of it.

I think it works two ways.  I went a few years ago and bumped into a band who were playing (might have been Swim Deep?) and they said it was one of the weirdest places they've ever played, as most of the attendees didn't seem remotely bothered about any of the bands playing.

People I know love it, but it seems to be more about wondering around in sequins and about the the non-musical activities going on around the place.  It also felt a bit of a rip-off, what with the booze limit and the endless extras, ("pay £20 for access to the compost loos"!).

I've not been back, but to be fair, all my friends who love it keep going back regularly so it can't be all bad, just not for me.

The line up is terrible I feel ripped off tbh, especially with the booze cap. What exactly are we paying for? No wonder they kept it secret

They spend a significant amount of money on the art installations/fire works etc. It's a really cool festival but agree that the booze cap is pretty stingy

This is exactly right. We went one year (leftfield headlined...wanna say 2011?). And, whilst the line up was good, no one cared about the bands. It was mostly one big rave. Everyone was nice and friendly (all the E, innit) but just wanted to get out of their gorges.

And Sunday was naked day.

I have an image seared into my brainbox of a man in his 50s, naked, completely hairless, leaning against the ice cream van eating a strawberry mivvi, like he's proving up the bar putting the world to rights. And no amount of therapy can get rid of that man....

Oh god it was awful 😞 I’m truly a totally positive and happy soul (and we met lots of similar people too) but this festival was an utter shit show. The basic infrastructure (toilets / hand washing / rubbish bins / security) were sacrificed completely making it GRIM from Friday morning onwards. Portaloos literally swimming in shit, urinals full, rubbish decomposing in the heat. Queues for food taking an hour as all the traders’ wifi went down. The line up (which I know is not the reason people go here) was pretty dire with little to no consistency across individual stages and wandering about felt aimless and something to do to pass the time. There was much less ‘to do’ (eg immersive stuff or comedy or cabaret) than I expected in the day so most people just seemed to have resorted to boshing as many chemicals as possible. There were dogs (and a cat ffs) being dragged around in 30 degree heat. It was the worst place ever. We left 24 hours early. Sad sad shit show.

I had elements of fun but for the most part I found it a total shit shot. Everything felt like an effort, there weren't enough food stalls on site and this created queues that were ridiculous. Then you get to the front to be told "it's cash only"....

I also just felt like there was loads of aimless wandering as it just wasn't clear anywhere who was playing on which stage.

Then you had the element of obscene amounts of rubbish literally everywhere. Walking through the He She They stage yesterday, there was rubbish literally everywhere and nos cannisters all over the place. The toilets have already been well mentioned so I won't go there.

I went in 2014 and 2016, but won't be going back again. The festival has become too commercialised now and there's other festivals which do what SGP aims to do, a lot better.

We left on Sunday afternoon, which I've not done at a festival for a long long time.

Wow the comments on Facebook are overwhelmingly negative, did SGP change ownership recently or something?

I'm a pretty seasoned festival goer and I think the comments are all spot on and then some.

Agreed on the issues with toilets and rubbish, from what I hear there were big issues with the toilet contractors but equally that's on the festival for going with who they did. Rubbish wise I get why people resorted to dropping/leaving it by full bins as I spent half an hour trying to find a bin with space for some cans on Sunday and eventually had to give up.

I did find the shower provision to be great, we were camped just by the live in vehicle field and queued for fifteen minutes Saturday lunchtime for a very clean and pleasant shower.

I enjoyed the rest of the festival more than most people on social media seem to have, went into it assuming I'd know none of the lineup and enjoyed a lot of what I discovered. I also loved lots of the little bits to find and pop up performances but was expecting far more of it based on what I had heard. Crowd was generally fantastic also although it seems this may not have been universal, may have been because of the areas I spent most time in.

Overall a lovely weekend and I'll definitely give it at least one more go, hopefully they'll take the feedback from this year seriously and fix things by next year.
