Basically the question for the festival is have times now changed.

There is no real alternative scene any more.

Nothing has changed in reality, I'd say the only difference is that huge epic band that will be around for the next 40 years for that Sunday night epic headliner (Foos, RHCP, Blink, Greenday, RATM) that's entirely because of Social Media and the ease of access to a million songs, there is no ability to maintain size unless you are super radio friendly (AM / 1975).

The generic acts though are the same as they ever was. Before Lady Gaga we had Madonna doing the same, Royal Blood are a continuation of Muse. Yungblud, MGK, even Loyle Carner. All these acts are just doing what we had 10, 20, 30 years ago and kids like to think they're cool and hip but we are all the same.

Our grandparents were bopping to the beatles, our parents had Bob Dylan, and now we're listening to the exact same styles from Arctic Monkeys and screaming "you old people just don't understand our music".

There's plenty of stuff as poppy as Harry Styles on these lineups. Let's face it, the only problem here is he's ex One Direction.

And if it was as simple as just booking any 1D guy, they'd all be playing two big stadium tours off of the same album cycle. They're not though. Harry Styles is the only one big enough, and thus is the only one that would be "keeping the 1D fans happy", as if they're the only ones who would be happy.

I know I'd be happy to see Harry Styles top TRNSMT if he'd lower himself to that.

They’re not novelty acts. They’re decent pop acts

And they haven’t always been shit for small acts at all. What year did you first go?

Not pre 2019 I’m guessing

2018 - says in my signature.

Truck, Y Not etc etc have at least 5 small tents each full of bands all day, as does trees or like slam dunk.

Reading had 3 small band tents in 2018 + bbc introducing, despite being about 4x the size and having two sites. They are hardly leading the charge 😂

Everything about this post is wrong.

Stone Roses were 20 years on from The Police, and after Stone Roses you get Oasis and Pulp. Then you go in to Stereophonics, Razorlight, The Enemy, Courteeners etc.

Music doesn't change, we just get older. The next generation get carbon copies of what the previous had, but like to think they're new and exciting.

The only one that's slightly different is KSI. It's probably why we don't get it. He is just a YouTube vlogger that puts other artists on his tracks and badly autotunes some slogans he shouts out. But then that's no different to DJ Khaled, and Tim Westwood of 10 and 20 years ago.

I never suggested they were “leading the charge” just that they weren’t shit.

They are now fucking shit

You are at least correct in the fact that other festivals do now provide significantly more choice (at a much lower price point) which is my whole point 🤣

Reading is no longer a ‘Festival’. Truck and Y not are

I think you have a very floored understanding of music. I don't know how you can compare The Stone Roses to Pulp to the Courteeners

And comparing KSI to f****** DJ Khaled and Tim Westwood must be a joke

I'm a huge fan of two of those three acts and they're all roughly in a similar bracket. Sure they do sound pretty different to each other but they all appeal to the same demographic, and have that "indie anthem" thing going.

All 3 are artists that put songs out in their name that are mostly other artists doing the lyrics and them shouting slogans in the background.

Tbf Rob Harvey also writes for Joel Corry!

Though there are also some co-written songs with members from Hurts, Courteeners and DMA'S on the album, 'Silver Tongues' in particular sounds just like something that Courteeners would release.

Who from Courteeners and DMAs have writing credits? I saw Theo Hutchcraft from Hurts helped write some

And what if that announcement is Machine Gun Kelly and KSI?

Well if nothing it would be a definitive point to base a big loud shouting match from rather than guessing whether or not they would book such acts and in turn making a judgement that both aren't Reading acts, whatever that means anymore.

Joe Cross from Courteeners has writing credits on Saturdays, Silver Tongues, and She is Beauty.

I saw DMA’S referenced as collaborators in the OCC’s interview with Louis, but on further inspection I think they were actually just an influence for him on this album.
