Wonder if The Strokes could play as well, surely not coming Europe for a single date and there's not that many about in late August/September. Only played one English date (Lytham) this Summer too...

The Strokes seem very reluctant to play the UK, they only seem to come over here once every five years. TRNSMT was probably your lot until next time.

There was meant to be a southern date but it fell through. Until recently they hardly toured because they didn't get along

Is MGK a "big enough" name in the UK for headlining (by big I mean mainstream)? I'd honestly say Jack Harlow and AJ Tracey are bigger, and they're just special guests.

The headliners always seem to be Radio 1 friendly crowd pleasers that appeal to the most people. MGK never gets airplay and his fans are quite specific. There is no doubt he is a 'big act', given his shows attendances and his status dating Megan Fox etc. But honestly I'd put him as a future "Run The Jewels" type act

Jack and AJ aren't playing 4 arenas + Wembley. It's not that far off but MGK is bigger.

Certainly adds more weight to the rumoured 5. Looking likely it’ll be those 5 plus either Paramore or MGK atm. Think Amyl & The Sniffers could play the tent or early main on the Green Day day as they supported at Hellamegatour.

Bigger, but not mainstream.

I think every headliner headlined off the back of a huge album release with tonnes of publicity and airtime.

MGK doesn't have any of that.

Just because an act has a dedicated fanbasetasy, doesn't mean they will shift tickets.

The people that go to his shows are not going to buy a festival ticket because he is playing.

A festival is a numbers game, an artist that is mainstream will headline. This is because they have acts front and center that everybody had heard a few of their songs without going out their way, and can enjoy the show for an hour.

This is why I'm accepting of KSI, because every day his songs are playing none stop everywhere.

Is this satire or are you being serious? Yes, MGK is bigger in the UK right now than Debut Album Cinema Club

I get you're a fan, but his numbers aren't great. He's big in the US, but that hasn't translated to success over here.

His latest album has only reached 60,000 streams, downloads and purchases in this country. That's 60% of Wembley Stadium.

He's only had 3 singles actually stream/download/sell/watch enough to get awarded (400,000 total), and all of those were propped up by more mainstream artists.

He's a very niche artist at the moment with an underground following in this country. I get that MTS was an awful booking and is less than he is, but she was still mainstream with Cardi and Beyonce songs.

And that's coming from somebody whose anthem to his early 20s was Wild Boy.

Never did i think I’d see the day where I saw mgk described as niche and underground

next youll be telling me about this really underground artist tame impala they’ve got a song called the less I know the better you’ve probably never heard of it before though they’re very niche

All of the above

As a quick side note, I can't stand the guy. I think his """punk""" music is the absolute dregs. Just looking at numbers.

For one, I think everything you've said applies more to AJ Tracey, Jack Harlow and frankly even TDCC than MGK. He's not niche or underground at all. Those streaming figures really don't mean much when he's just played Wembley, 4 arenas and 3 intimate gigs in a row here.

No one metric is ever perfect or even very good, but just seeing how many people are Googling him in the last year in this country next to the other names mentioned paints a decent picture. Harlow's doing alright, but not at the same level.

RATM who haven't released an album for 20 years were booked, silly argument that.

It doesn't matter if they rely on their debut they are still getting bigger slots than MGK 😂

I was only being cheeky about their catalogue, point remains they're just not as big in the UK right now as he is. MGK isn't playing the 7pm slot at Leeds.

Anyway, I've said my piece, I don't even like the guy at all but he'd be a very solid MSW booking.

Current size isn't everything was my point - TDCC did MSE sub in 2021 i don't think its too far fetched for MGK who sold out wembley arena once to play that slot ? Hardly like he's some behemoth

MTS had the biggest headline crowd of the 3 MSW headliners

It's not, but someone like MGK is very much a "right now" booking - he didn't play one single track off his first three albums on this tour - and right now he's bigger than a sub. Strike while the iron's hot, and all that.

MGK will get a crazy amount of slander on social media - I feel like they may as well just get him to do MSE if budget permits

Also, 60k sales for the album is pretty decent by recent standards, it isn't 2010 anymore...

It took Mainstream Sellout just over 7 months to be certified Silver. For comparison, The 1975's Notes took 7 months, BMTH's Post Human took exactly 9 months, Catfish's The Balance was also 7 months, Disclosure's Energy took 2 years, Biffy Clyro's A Celebration of Endings took a year, Halsey's Manic took just over a year (and her most recent album from August 2021 has yet to reach 60k at all).

Machine Gun Kelly is definitely big enough for an MSW slot. Compared to KSI & Megan Thee Stallion, MGK has every right to demand an MSW headliner slot.

Would he be a good booking? That's more debatable. Personally, my best guess is Paramore makes more sense, or maybe someone we haven't even properly considered - Blur, The Killers, even Pulp? I still don't think it's a given that Fender headlines MSE considering he was only this summer headlining mid-size feats like Tramlines and Victorious.

Pretty similar to the first 3 to be fair - surprised 1975 took so long and biffy too
