On The Blend
I do love the creativity and ambition on these forums when people are eyeing some gem of a booking like Neutral Milk Hotel while the FR team have already booked Wombats into Two Door and gone to the pub early. jcarb
Are we just ignoring Fred Again...? Easily has the pull for the slot and he's around since he's doing a 4 day stint at Ally Pally a week later. Day tickets as a minimum would sell out for that day. They owe us for 2021, and unlike then or Rage last year it's not a last minute pull out, so enough time to organise logistics etc. QOTSA would sell a very poor amount of tickets vs their cost - look how widely they are playing in the UK this year

QOTSA would sell me and my partner a sunday ticket. Scowl > Inhaler > Nothing But Thieves > Joey & Brae > QOTSA > Killers is a good run, clashes permitting. Won't be QOTSA though I don't think. A dark fruits day would be a big seller, as long as you don’t alienate everyone else by not offering alternatives at the same time on other stages… It’s pretty clear now, people aren’t spending £300 to watch Imagine Dragons and Lewis Capaldi and otherwise sit through a single bunch of also rans

I think they’d placate a lot of people going already but like the headliners themselves, who’ve played everywhere in the last 12 months, they’re obviously not going to help sell out the festival

Plus if anyone wants to see QOTSA, they'd probably just hold out to November and pop along to those dates, like I will be.
charlierc
If they somehow got Paramore, who I've noted end their US tour before R&L, that would absolutely make me come along as Killers + Paramore would imo be enough to justify a day trip. That, however, is a proper long-shot booking that I absolutely don't think will happen so I'm not gonna worry about it. Pulp I think would've been possible but I don't know if they fit the R&L demographic even in the way they did in 2011, let alone their 90s heyday, to say nothing of the idea of whether they plan to return to dormancy until their Mexican shows in November. It's kinda tricky to predict who they might end up with tbh.

Paramore would be a shocking MSE headliner. I'm not a rock fan in the slightest. If QOTSA were announced then I would 100% buy that Saturday ticket. I would have been about 15 when 4music on Freeview did the 10pm countdowns of certain videos. One of them had QOTSA Go With the Flow as the rudest music video of all time. I limewired the album Songs for the Deaf (then 5 years old) and listened to it everyday on my paperround (mp3 players only fit 15 songs on). Killers a year later when I was 16 leaving school, as well as 18 in clubs with Mr Brightside. Them 2 would make my teen years complete. Paramore sold out a massive arena tour this year with ease and are a massive mainstream proposition. They’re more than big enough to headline MSE. They are MSE or nothing. They have a fanatic fan base who would buy day tickets to see them.

As long as there is some representation for them in the lineup, I don’t think it has half as much of an affect on sales anyway. They’ll turn up for 4-5 generally smaller but big in their world names. Stick Carti, or whoever is 2024’s 2020’s Carti playing 3rd 4th and they’ll lap it up Everyone is different but when I was a kid I didn’t go for the headliners…still don’t mind so maybe it’s just me. If reading manage to book the 4-5 big next things, while also having generally appealing headliners, they’ll sell well. With the new format, they’re missing out big style on the next big things, going with tried and tested but ultimately thoroughly unexciting bookigns like Inhaler and NBT 🥱 Edited July 4, 2023 by Benj

Will b
Paramore would (and have) fit perfectly into that coheadliner slot that we just don’t get with the 2 stages - maybe with someone like fall out boy who are touring again but can see them playing with someone like fender/foals too - a few of their songs like all I wanted, still into you and hard times are (mildly) popular with the indie crowd and tiktok music fans alas.. no can see them for MSE next year easily though Edited July 5, 2023 by Will b

Bad option but i guess not out of the picture. I dont think hes really in the music space at the moment I maybe wrong but i haven't seen anything recently regarding music or tours, but maybe an exclusive would make him sell somewhat well and make it so he "warrants" a R&L headline more?
