Ahhhhh f* sake, I thought Georgia USA.

But still, that is no different to calling a Muslim a brother in 2002 and getting booed by all the rednecks for 9/11.

Completely different (and it wouldn't just be 'rednecks' booing)

It really isn't.  Without turning this into a geopolitical debate, a group of bad guys commit atrocities on foreign soil, supported by a chunk of a demographic and not supported by a chunk of a demographic.

To hate, boo, shun an entire demographic because of the actions of a few that hold power is the most ridiculous form of racism / xenophobia.

Some poor kid went to a Killers concert, got called on stage, a dream for most people, and has now been destroyed by the 'current thing TM'.

I was in the US following 9/11 and a muslim boy in my class and his family were turfed out by people thinking they were acting in good faith, purely because they were the same demographic as others that carried out terror attacks.

Do better next time.

Not all Russians support the war. Poor dude was just trying to go to a Killers concert with other people going to a Killers concert.

Nobody is blaming the person who went on stage

Nor am I blaming anyone personally - i'm just saying its a mad comparison

Nationality vs Nationality is quite different to Nationality vs Religion

Campsite layout seems to have chang d a little colourwise

No more Red, so we can probably assume tickets sales are down at least 10-15% or so

A lot of that is down to the new academy being built on some of it and the ongoing demolition of the old Rivermead Leisure Centre

Also it having Guest Camping and Access camping and parking (along with some crew camping)

Russia is occupying part of Georgia and he said that georgians and russians are brothers and sisters....

not very hard to grasp

What he actually said was some statement about how there should be no borders and how we're all brothers and sisters, not specifically just Russians and Georgians. His intentions were good but in a lot of parts of the world outside of the west, such a lovey dovey statement.

I do think this business of hating on all Russians because of Putin is very xenophobic though, yet it seems to be encouraged in some quarters. Russia is a great country, rich in history and culture, but unfortunately currently in the hands of a warmonger.

It's one of those things that doesn't travel well imo. I'm aware it wasn't meant in the geopolitical sense but in a nation where there is a valid reason to be irritated by Russia, who have not given back the bits they seized in a 2008 invasion at a time when Georgia was actively trying to join NATO, it can easily be interpreted to the less fun interpretation.

I'm aware there's a difference between Russophobia and thinking Putin is a prick - and in fairness banning Russian cultural things feeds into an "Us vs the West" narrative Putin loves to parade - but we are where we are, unfortunately.

What a weird way to discover that Georgia and Azerbaijan now have venues able to host big Western pop-rock acts.

Saying that I'm aware F1 has a race in Azerbaijan thanks to them paying the largest hosting fee of anyone on the current calendar and which presumably gets criticism for accepting the cash they have to offer thanks to their antics, given similar was also said when UEFA gave Azerbaijan European cup finals and Euro 2020 games.

Taken a longer look at this.

They've clawed back some of what is lost, with the reclaim of the Silent disco space in Orange, overall though there is significantly less camping space available than last year

Red has gone completely, with the additional space taken at that part of the site, camping plus, replacing a lot of what used to be green.

In addition, it looks like a large chunk of white has gone....

Map Blacked out areas are lost, sky blue area gained.

Pink Moon has increased in size.

Also, more day tickets have been sold.

So less weekend tickets and they still haven’t sold out?

I think this years poor sales will impact them for the next few festivals. Previously people would buy a ticket and then if they decided not to go they knew they’d be able to sell it at the click of their fingers, sometimes for profit if you’re that way inclined. I think people will be more cautious before committing now. It will be intriguing to see if they raise prices again for next year too.

🤔

So they’ve reduced camping capacity AND still not sold it out

Worse that’s thought then

Also…they’ve not managed to sell out a single day, or indeed a single ticket category, including early birds

I wonder how bad sales actually are!

Not as bad as people think 😉

I’m thinking 10-15% shy, just by the camping site downguage

The fact that they’ve reduced camping capacity AND still not sold out is pretty bad

Esp…if that was pre-planned with a shift to more day tickets that haven’t sold out either

Are you aware of if there are any big differences in the day ticket sales numbers (assume you can’t give us details but has any particular single day sold better that others)?

Makes me wonder if the festival will still be around in 5-10 years time, or at least in the incarnation as we know it.

What happens when you shed your roots in favour of TikTok trends and just book a bunch of pop acts.

This. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them scrap Leeds in the next couple of years.

Based off of this one year that hasn’t even taken place yet? It’s sold out the last two years.

I hope they have a rethink re: the lineup for next year.
