Headliners -

Foals/Sam Fender | Billie Eilish | Greenday

Special guest -

MGK

R1 -

KSI

That's not bad. KSI being main stage sullies it's name.

It really doesn’t though, does it. Especially seeing how he’s done it already. You’re obsessed, man.

Uninspiring to me.

As much as try and appreciate Eilish, it’s just not for me.

Greenday did a load when I was a kid

Fender played last year

Foals alright.

KSI not for me

to be honest whoever is 6th is unlikely to excite me much unless it’s Kenny hoopla!

Fair enough if it doesn't excite you but the sub then headline 2-3 years later thing happens all the time and is no reason not to book someone. chances are he could do glasto in 2024 and it would be the same there. So many headliners play a smaller slot two years before they come back to headline

Look at it this way, at least we’re talking about an up and coming British indie band headlining for the first time, 14 months ago we watched Post Malone headline for the second time in as many festivals.

I think Fender is dull as dishwater and I have less than zero interest in watching him but he’s massive and fits the demographic to a tee. It’s a good booking.

Same here, I’d rather sit in the campsite but it’s a massive booking. 18 year old indie-phase me would be buzzing

For sure, i have no issue with him being booked anyway. can't say i care that much for him but i'd happily watch him

Fender was great at Truck this year, would smash a headline slot. Will be interesting to see if he ever progresses further (Glasto headline) or goes back to a sort of Foals/Courteeners level in the future.

I wouldn't buy the day ticket for him, they'd have to pair him with someone else I liked (Green Day/Foals from these potentials) and have a decent day below him to get me back.

I watched him at Tramlines this year, which he stated was his first headline slot ever at a festival. He performed well, albeit overshadowed by Kasabian the following day, but the vast majority of the crowd (including myself) were really into it and had a great time.

Indeed. It happens. It’s a good set of headliners, just not for me

This is how festivals die…

All ticket shifters. When the rep Of the festival dies though and then that audience you relied on then ☠️

Of course we’re in a whole new world now and Reading has always been brilliant at riding the wave of what’s in, if there is suddenly a swing trend back to substance and credibility and the festival has none left, as it’s peddled itself to TikTok, will the kids still want to go?

I think Readign will be fine and as covered Infinium I think the longer term dange is in the much more restricted lineups they now have post 2019, rather than booking KSI to headline.

As a regular goer, I really struggle to see value in the new format

Funny thing is today is a time when V festival would actually thrive again.

Yep just looked into their last tour. Most venues around the 10,000 mark with some being as little as 3,000 capacity. Wouldn't call that being a big shifter.

I like Foals but there's no debate they're not in their prime right now.

You are correct, he is just talking wack! If they didn't have a 2nd headline/stage....virtually sub level in some cases then it wouldn't be happening. See Disclosure...MTS.

As for Fender, yes he's big but he's not the biggest ticket shifter around. He sold out two stadium dates in his home town....well who'd have thought it. Like just like saying Courteeners sold out Heaton Twice/Emirates. Liam selling Manchester.

Billie Eilish - one of the absolute biggest artists on the planet.

Green Day - multi-generational defining band who will always go down well at R&L, no matter how much it changes. They’re ubiquitously massive.

Sam Fender - one of the biggest ticket shifters in the country right now.

Foals - festival favourite, in the form of their lives and shift tickets still.

KSI - we’ve established our opinions on him these last couple of days.

MGK (likely) - big arena seller and a massive name.

It’s a very R&L set of headliners and KSI aside, I don’t think it’s even arguable that it’s a collection of big names.

This is spot on. It's objectively a great lineup. The smallest of those MSE headliners globally is Fender, who's on red hot form right now and is shifting a load of tickets wherever he goes.

Foals are absolutely one of the best live bands around and definitely shift tickets. MGK and KSI likewise will shift tickets for different demographics of festival goer. They aren't for me but both objectively great bookings if true

how sure are we that this source is right? like 1%, 80% certain etc.

My source works with KSI’s music team, so he is 100%. I’m not entirely sure where he heard about the other headliners, but he’s been right in the past. So I’d say I’m about 90-95% sure on the other 4.

I wouldn’t have posted them here if I wasn’t too sure, I don’t want to ruin my reputation!

The Enemy sold out the Ricoh Arena 👍🏼

Mate, Razorlight headlined the fucker. There's no damage KSI can do.

You do realise Razorlight were hugely popular at the time and had a big ‘celebrity’ presence

it was only in the light of day a couple of years later people after a duff album of the same ol crap did people realised they lacked a little substance

The same could mos def could happen with KSI…

That is a why people are questioning him headlining. Stars can fall pretty hard and fast when people realise that the music is actually a bit shit

vice is still a proper banger whatever people say

Big tour. Lots of tickets.

Let’s not start giving it the ‘arenas aren’t enough, it has to be stadiums’ bollocks that some Download attendees give it. Those people are thick.

Foals are good, they aren't really relevant and dont necessarily draw a big crowd or stick in people's memories, not the demographic that attend R&L.

Of course KSI though is a swing in the other direction, kids love him because he's a famous shit talking, YouTube boxing, vlogger but his music is shit, unmemorable and all round crap. He will draw a crowd and will be memorable but people will talk for 20 years how bad his HL set was.

They need someone in between. Stormzy, Dave, AJ Tracy kind of acts that are relevant, iconic, popular and memorable.

Paramore would have been a better choice than Foals.

Foals are a decent size for MSW. Draw a big crowd at Glastonbury and had loads of dates last summer that sold out and could headline any mid tier festival easily. Paramore would be a lot more expensive booking for R&L than Foals and the other options for indie acts to headline R&L would’ve been between Kasabian and Courteeners so I think Foals would actually be the biggest and best out of those 3. If the headliners are Sam Fender, Billie Eilish, Green Day, Machine Gun Kelly, KSI & Foals that’s pretty big time.
