They're two different festivals, it doesn't work as a litmus test. Like debating where Elbow would land on a R&L bill, they just wouldn't any more.

Didn't realise we were scientists, just a bit of conversation. Its not like KSI wouldn't get booked for glasto, pretty much any act gets booked there

This is serious business!!

Nah, I'm just saying his Glasto spot wouldn't necessarily have any bearing on his Leeds + Reading spot. Much like Biffy can sub and co-head LnR while they headline Download. Different strokes for different folks.

Nothing from Supermassive or Drones...

Exactly (Absolution wasn’t out either, it’s still easily their Reading zenith, having seen every show they’ve ever played there, Inc the 99 show in the little tent)

This "taking a gamble on credibility" fake concern is absolute guff. It happens every other year with some group of people who consider themselves an imaginary core demographic and then the festival sells out anyway and they still come back and keep moaning about it regardless. Mumford in 2015 was the death of L&R to some people. Then it was Disclosure; "they just press play on a computer!". 2018 having two rap acts at the top was the final straw, and then Post Malone - who blew up through the internet - headlined two festivals in a row and the festival was ran into the ground.

Twaddle. KSI can play the fake headline slot one year and never show up again if he's not relevant. It won't hurt the festival at all.

No one said anything slightly like that re Mumford, Disclosure or two rap acts and certainly not a Post Malone

People said it when V started putting in Pop stars all over the line up and low and behold…

Obv KSI alone won’t pull all the credibility out of the festival as 1/6 ‘headliners’ .  Alongside the binning of the big tent, second small stage etc, if the lineup begins to be swamped with here today gone tomorrow TikTok acts though, it may well do.

…Or it may well thrive, selling forever to a massive audience who are happy to hang about to just catch a 30 second meme to lash up on snap chat

Well that's that, then, if you've got the entire internet memorised I probably can't do much to change your mind.

Give over, every year it's the same conversation of "R&L isn't for me any more" and they're usually right, this time it's no different with them booking an act popular with the kids that confuses the older people. Every year it's a wall of people calling it w*nk and the worst lineup ever and then it sells out. Repeat ad nauseum.

As you say, V Fest shot itself in the foot by swinging far too hard in one direction. When you've got 2 headliners and they're both pop/rap, it's a lot different from having 6 (or if we're not pretending, 3) and having just one or two of those be pop/rap. LnR will be just fine if KSI flops.

You joined here in 2020, guess you could’ve been lurking in 2015 but the reaction or Mumford being announced may have had a few of the ‘ROCK!!’ types annoyed but there were certainly no shouts of it being the end of the festival. They we’re a huge band who were very obv Reading headliner fodder

Similarly in 2016, if anything Disclosure headlining was if anything appreciated as a dance act being able to do it. There were certainly no ‘end’ of festival shouts

This one little forum is not the only place people talk about Leeds and Reading online. While it's funny to poke fun at the people on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit etc. who moan about the lineup every year, people doing the same here about KSI are no different and are worth exactly the same thing to Festival Republic: one ticket.

Bored of going in circles on this now but I'm sure we'll have another 20 pages of the same arguments about how he's not a "real" headliner because the internet made him popular or something.

Its going to be 8 more months of this without any doubt unless he isn't headlining.

I think one of the main things is he hasn't done other headline festival appearances before. If he did say Boardmasters and a few others this year then did R&L next year it would seem a lot less ridiculous

It pretty much was in 2015!

People whining directly to ‘admin’ on twitter instagram etc… is a relatively new thing

Mumford would’ve been widely appreciated back in 2015 with the majority of the twitter mob back in 2015.

Post Malone co-headlining in 2019 didn’t cause any real fuss at all did it? If so would’ve just been complaints about him not having an actual band. He was a global superstar headlining festivals all over Europe

Deffo more grief in 2021 when he was back again!

Blink 192 talk about to heat up...

2/9/23 - OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland

5/9/23 - 3Arena, Dublin, Ireland

( europe in between )

14/10/23 - Utilita Arena Birmingham, Birmingham, England

15/10/23 - Manchester Arena, Manchester, England

Interesting they don’t have a London date on that list (not that I could see)

If APE is in august, could they be a shout?

Its a Live Nation tour so seems it lines up more with getting booked for R/L than with an AEG fest.

Deleted what, their socials? That happened over the weekend. The dates leaked early this morning and not via their own official channels. People get stuff early ya know. And every local venue and such has to have their announcement ready and synched up for tomorrow. Theyre also playing Lolla South America which announces 2pm bst tomorrow fyi.

That supposed Lollapalooza South America lineup that's supposed to be out tomorrow at 2 is naughty. Drake / Billie / Blink / SZA / Lil Nas X / Tame Impala. Think Drake's shit personally but gotta be one of the biggest ticket sellers on the planet.

Oh wow that is strong, if that was in the UK I'd book a ticket for Drake alone, yet alone the other good names!
