Waters would headline or nothing I'd say.

Nick Mason's Saucerful of secrets though... Gimme that anywhere anytime and I'll be there.

Agree with this about Waters, who is elsewhere headlining huge places. But is he now too toxic for Glastonbury?

Nick Mason on the other hand... Saw his show earlier this year and was mightily impressed. I think he and is band would make a sublime Park headliner.

She has one legendary song, but I don't think she would count as a legend slot booking.

Seems far more like a Park afternoon soul legend like Ronnie Spector or Mavis Staples

I'd argue that the mega legendary status of that one legendary song could make her qualify.

Then we could include her covers of Jacksons, Frankie Valli and the Supremes.

Fuck it, I just wanna sing I will survive at the pyramid on Sunday 🙂

You could have done that this year.

Has Chaka Khan ever played?  Would be a great Legends set IMO.  Or maybe more suited to headlining W Holts?

I'd be well up for this. Seen her twice without really meaning to - headlining smaller fests - and really enjoyed both times.

She plays the UK relatively frequently, so I wonder if that would count against her for the Legends slot.

It's more her relative lack of celebrity. She's got several big hits and I'd love to see her at the G in some other slot, but she's fairly anonymous compared to anyone else that's ever played it.

This is a valid point, that slot demands not just big tunes but big personality too.

I was really excited to see her at bestival a few years ago, but in the end it was a bit of a snooze fest until the last 15 or 20 minutes. They were a great last few songs though.

Hadn't realised Smokey Robinson was still performing, would he be a good fit or more of a Mavis Staples/Ronnie Spector style booking?

I think Smokey could have done it 10/15/20 years ago when the slot wasnt so strong and he was more relevent, don't think he would be a 'legend' with the younger audience so Mavis Staples type booking more suitable.

Not sure why it hasnt happened yet. Sky arts used to show a festival set of his that looked decent.

That would be a lovely booking.

So I mentioned Stevie Nicks being the legend next year.  Just found out she’s touring with Billy Joel in the US.  Suddenly wondering if she’ll be the support at his BST gig too!! That would make It very likely surely.

What an odd pairing.  I associate Billy with drunken fratboy singalongs and i wouldn't think the Venn diagram between the two fan groups would overlap that much

That's a fairly US-centric view of his fanbase which doesn't really translate over here – he's firmly in classic Radio 2/boomer demographic territory, which BST Hyde Park generally excels at.
