Do we think her back catalogue of solo stuff ticks the right box? She's legendary, no doubt, but the folksy/ballad type stuff she tends toward on her solo releases doesn't seem quite right does it? I think there are just enough bangers in her holster - just. But it does seem like the Mac songs in her setlist are fixed: Dreams Gypsy Landslide Gold Dust Woman Rhiannon Then obviously there's Edge of Seventeen and Stop Dragging My Heart around. So in a 75 minute set there will be a few lulls with lesser known material.

If she goes out of her way a bit no doubt she could pull in a couple of special guests and and chuck in covers if their songs as well to pad it out some more. jannybruck
The fee discussion is interesting and I think the fact is that Glastonbury will now be on the back foot as artists' costs rise accordingly. There's only so far the ~but it's such an iconic beautiful festival to play~ rose tinted eFests stuff can work in real life, particularly for acts that have extremely high touring/living costs and who can get literally four times as much at any other festival in Europe. I genuinely think in the next few years the festival will struggle to book acts right across the board unless they somehow restructure the fee thing because for a huge amount of artists – particularly for long-in-the-tooth established touring acts which include legendary artists – taking a loss on doing something like this just isn't worth it. Would go the other way with this. There seems to be more and more big American artists playing each year. Whilst they have the bbc coverage then the increase in sales after the festival is still a big drawer

But for 40/50/60+ touring artists looking at their bottom line over the next few years I think it'll be much more difficult than it has been in the past. She already does a couple of covers (Free Falling and For What It's Worth). But in terms special guests it may be along the lines of people like Mike Campbell or Professor Roy Bittan. Maybe Don Henley as an outside bet.

Hear what you're saying with this, but there's also the counter argument that the bigger/older stars are the ones who are most likely to be sitting on £millions anyway and may see this as a career moment to tick off. I get that we're a forum of Glasto lovers so have rose tinted bias here, but it is still a big deal by any measure. As long as you weren't actually losing money by doing it, why wouldn't you? Who love music so much they've made it their whole career... who are already absolutely wedged with cash... BUT won't do what they love at an event that holds so much history and prestige and which sends it's profits to charity. Absolute money grabbers in my opinion, literally wanting to take money from these charities. It's not that well regarded these days. I mean, it's well regarded, but it's no longer the historic, counter-cultural thing it used to be. It's become commercialised, for the better I think. But that, coupled with it losing a bit of global relevance - the whole BBC thing, which was great for the profile of the event in the UK, suffers globally when it's only available on iPlayer. Plus other festivals are matching it for size. And while it donates money to charity, it's a tiny fraction of what it brings in, it's by no means a charitable event. And it doesn't need massive "profits" on paper as it doesn't have shareholders, and the people that own it own the land it takes place on, and pay themselves a huge fee from the festival to them for renting "the festival" the land. Maybe Madonna would agree to play one year if the Eavis' donate half their personal festival income to charity...
