2023 legend slot

Robbie Williams has just been interviewed on BBC Breakfast: he said he would "love" to play the legends slot.

"It is the epicentre of the music world for that weekend. Everybody's watching and everyone has their eyes on it, and that kind of thing doesn't happen anymore as music on TV has died a death. So yeah, it would be a big deal."

He was asked specifically about the legends slot, not one of the three headliners.

plus there's mel c's intragram the other day which basically said "nothing happening here".

Robbie Williams mentioned them this morning on the bbc as being possibles for Glastonbury. As well as hinting he’d like to be back as it’s been 25 years since he was there.

met a couple of guys today who said their band "the federation" played the first glastonbury festival.don't think i've ever heard of them.

There's a band called The Federation that played Jazz World in 1995 according to this https://www.vam.ac.uk/performing-glastonbury/1995/friday/

Long way off the first one.

I think Robbie Williams would be great fun.

he would deffo get a big crowd and plenty would enjoy him but for me he's terrible, karaoke singer at best but hes done really well for himself so fair doos . My new rule since last glastonbury for "should I watch an act is if a song comes on the radio and i instantly turn it off then i will never go to watch them" - robbies in that catergory haha

My new legend rule is only go if I really genuinely love them. It's just not worth the crowds for me otherwise but yep if you hate some of their songs turning up to see them would be a miserable experience.

This begs a question I've probably asked before.

Do people go to the legends slot and/or headliners just because they think they should whether or not they like them?

I would never pay to see Diana Ross but I do like some of the old stuff so thought she would be ok but she wasnt....we left early.

I made the same mistake at Kylie and lasted 2 songs ....also very sick inducing so iam very stupid for getting caught up with the legend hype and wont be mking that mistake ever again 🤞

At least you had the sense/guts to leave.

I went to the Rolling Stones, whatever year that was, they were IMO dreadful, I lasted about 15 minutes and legged to Public Enemy on west Holts.

Was one of the best decisions I've made, Public Enemy were superb.

I think 100000% there are absolutely people that do this. I've had friends who have come to headliners with me that they aren't particularly arsed about solely because they are headlining and they think they should be there (I was basically the only person in my group actually interested in Paul McCartney this year, but two or three people came with me because "when else am I going to get the chance to see Paul McCartney headline Glastonbury")

I wasn't there for Kylie, altho I read the Guardian's 5 star review. Was she that bad or was it the horrible choreography with the security etc that made you leave?

For me, I go and see the Legend slot for a singalong and a chilled pint. If it's rammed and I don't like the artist, I'd never go. Case in point, Craig David. I took one look at the field and headed to the bar, waited for him to stop singing the same song for the next thirty mins, had a rum n coke, then made my way in for RTJ.

Why anyone would go to someone they don't like is beyond me, although I can assume ppl go because they don't know someone but feel the pressure of the title 'the Legends Slot', ergo they must be good because otherwise would GF book them.

I'm up for that. Spice Girls first, then Robbie Williams enables me to stick to my don't go to the legend slot without even the tiniest sliver of regret.

I'd rather spend the whole of the 5 days with explosive diarrhoea than spend 5 minutes watching Robbie Williams!
