Hope you continue to be lucky every new years eve I am tortured by a smug post I made about how lucky we were that she didn't care less about them as she lay on a rug at midnight looking out on them. Now she currently looks like a patchwork dog as she's just had her first course of regenerative stem cell treatment to try and reverse some of the damage she has (which we have to travel to Scotland to get) but even a vet behaviourist aid she will never cope with fireworks. At her worst she became so noise sensitive that us closing our front door would make her to scared to walk. She shakes/drools etc so much if we are surprised by fireworks that every time I worry she might die of a heart attack.

Good to end a miserable post on something that people can giggle at even if it was completely unintentional. 😄

Shit, the poor thing. How horrible for her.

My Stitch now just barks, sadly she does not have much longer we don't think (even vets have mentioned the dread words)  so don't think we have the fireworks worry aboutand we are lucky where we live that there aren't many. She has started to bark at the wind now as she gets deafer

Aw sorry to hear that. It's awful seeing them poorly. We've sadly had way too much of it Nuala is actually pretty young (only 7) Unfortunately her personality that of a stubborn stoic terrier has made her condition much worse. She doesn't show pain easily and it is actually her noise sensitivity that made us investigate. COVID protocols screwed us properly because without us in the room with her she wouldn't show pain to any of the specialists. Unfortunately we live in a very densely populated area and most of the houses have gardens big enough to buy the big ones. I'd actually love if she did go deaf as it would save her a lot of trauma. Our other dog couldn't give less of a shit about them. He'll be lying on his back snoring whilst they are going off all around him.

Ours is 14 years old and back legs going.

Your other dog does sound remarkably like me though

Thursday night is all about Psytrance in the Glade Lounge - it's pretty much a single dance genre catered for in the same one venue on the same night each year, and so feels traditional and special at the same time. Sets me up beautifully for the next three nights mostly in Block9/Arcadia etc.

Ben

I didn't know this was a thing at all. Definitely going to check it out. 😁

One of my dogs has some severe physical injuries that physically hurt when she tenses and hears loud noises and so she is completely petrified of fireworks to the point where we have to go away for a fortnight in November every year and now have to start going away for New Year as the medication we were given for New Year didn't work at all.

However because people set them off pretty much all the time now she gets so scared come Winter that we effectively can't really leave her at night and somebody setting some off will basically mean she spends at least a week on high alert terrified even to go into the garden for a wee. Basically people would be better off coming around to kick my dogs a few times rather than setting them off because that is the effect it has on her.

In the past 3 years we have spent over £30k on her medical bills (thankfully insured for some but not all of it) and probably £10k more on firework avoiding holidays, medications etc. It doesn't give us a lot of time or disposable income to a lot else.

Interestingly at Glastonbury a flame from a firework at Foo fighters did burn a hole in my jacket as well. If I hadn't noticed it and put it out straightaway it could have caused more damage.

In spite of everything I don't want to ban them either. I'm against banning things in general but I do think that the rules around letting them off and the noise levels should be much stricter. I think that you should have to apply for a public licence and they should be listed so that people can see when and where any public displays are going to be happening. I also think from an environmental point of view it would be nice if people came to the conclusion themselves that they are just a bad thing. Have seen some impressive drone lights shows and I sincerely hope these take off. I just don't think anyone enjoys fireworks enough for it to be worth the level I have had to curtail my life.

Sorry to hear about your dog, we were very fortunate with ours, he wasn’t bothered by them at all, being a Lab I guess it was bred into him to not be scared of loud bangs. I know it can really affect some quite badly.

It's because of physical pain so if your dog was unlucky enough to get the same conditions the breed wouldn't make any difference. We had 3 years of her being utterly unconcerned by fireworks but when she got her various conditions she became scared. She's scared of the pain she experiences when her muscles tense which is a natural reaction to loud noises.  Unfortunately in her head noise and pain are now linked. Our other dog who is the same breed is totally unconcerned by them.

The Thursday of 2019 was one of the busiest music days I'd had at Glastonbury in years, according to my clashfinder.

Kicked off with Mik Artistik ay Croissant Neuf, then a bimble.

Strummerville had a really good line up on Thursday. We made an afternoon of it and stayed from Broken Bones Matilda through to Frank Turner playing a not so secret set. Really enjoyed Ferris and Sylvester, Ten Sheds and Mrs Boomtowner enjoyed Johnny Lloyd.

Watched New York Brass at the Rocket Lounge, Undercover Hippy played late, it was a great day

In 2015, 16 and 17 there used to be an covered bar by the theatre serving beer you couldn’t get elsewhere on the farm - terrific stuff like Grimbergen.

Was sad to find out the taps had been changed in 2019 and it reverted to either generic gassy lager or overhyped craft stuff. Had been dying for a cold pint of Belgian strength in that heat.

Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Did I make it up in a haze?

Taps aff?

Will Elvana likely be there again? Looked a right laugh but missed both of his sets.

They were brilliant, totally ridiculous transitions from In the Ghetto to Heart Shaped Box etc...but it all works  really hope they're on this year.

I used to go hard on the Weds night waiting for the sun to come up on the stones, it was a ritual and a great way to start the weekend off. The last time I went I bagged an early night on the Thursday and woke to go and watch Bright Eyes on the Other at 10.30 iir. Unbelievable set!! When I got back to the tents everyone was still a sleep.

I haven't been for along time but always used to head to the Leftfield Stage on Thursday for the first bands, the problem was that half of the site was there too! Is this not the case anymore?

This year i'm taking it easy so not to miss owt, yeah right.

Left Field in it's new location doesn't have acts Thursday. The old location (approximately) has been taken by Williams Green which does and yeah as the biggest venue open tends to get packed.
