Not impossible, but there's a series of rules that vary based various factors including type of vehicle, route and time. For example in some cases even when a vehicle is permitted, it needs to travel at walking speed and have a Marshall walking in front as an escort.

Which would render any shuttle a bit pointless.

I guess they could do something which had 1 drop off point in the interstage compound. That might be more possible and appease.

What about round the outside of the fence?

They could drop off at each vehicle gate couldn’t they?  Use the perimeter track and that would cut down the walk. And make it easier.

I saw the car park map was published recently. Is the festival map generally made available shortly after that and therefore this is an indication it's imminent?

It wasn’t so much published but became available within the planning information. I don’t think there is much correlation in the sense that the festival will make the map available to us when they want to. One thing we can say which is obvious is that with only 50 ish days to go we should get it relatively imminently as a matter of course.

The most logical solutions would be to ensure staff access routes through the festival i.e. walkways only staff can access to cut through the festival where possible and not have to walk miles out of the way to get around.

There are, in some locations. But that doesn't really solve the issue, more mitigates it very slightly.

More locations, less walking. Problem solved? 😄 It's a festival and everyone needs to be prepared to have to walk quite a bit, just mitigating the length of the walks pre and post shifts would make a world of difference. I dont think its practical or expected to have everyone shuttled around door to door.

The perimeter track isn't suitable for anything much larger than a landrover in places.  And you're not really supposed to use it unless you are security.

I've driven for Oxfam, and we do try to get as many people as possible a lift to the really far places (Pennards, Worthy View, what was West Campers) - with typical traffic it can take nearly half an hour to get to those, and during the show there is no way that you would (or be allowed) to drive across the site, instead you have to use the various roads around the edge of the site, both inside and out.

Equally, I don't think it's reasonable to expect volunteer staff (specifically thinking of those who aren't primarily there for the free ticket but instead to support their kids after school club) to have to walk over an hour to or from shift locations even with shortcuts.

Hi Carl

I literally just got this joke today, in the shower. I've been wondering why the fuck you were calling me Carl. I had even seen the Carl Cox/Arcadia nonsense happen as it unfolded, I had all the information I needed at the time. Joke was simply not found in my brain. Today, though, it finally clicked into place. I had to tell you, as it was a good joke and I do (now) appreciate it.

I agree. But with adequate planning it would be simple enough to not have to walk an hour to go on shift. Even if you had to get to the other side of the festival. It's just not going to happen because its not even close to being a priority.

So all shifts have the same number of fire stewards to cover this??

There will be a minimum requirement to meet the risk assessments requirements you would imagine.

not quite but close - if you had (for example 10 stewards at the stonebridge bar at midnight, when it has 1,500 people in and around it, you wouldn't need 10 people at 5 am when it is shut, you would only have a few there, who could be redeployed elsewhere in the park if (for example) the rabbit hole got too crowded. The Ribbon tower is the same- if open 3 or 4 people, if shut 2 people

Yes. All that would be in the risk assessment.
