Your most controversial Glastonbury opinions

Spent ages reading this thread to catch up. Used multi quote on about 6 posts I wanted to reply to. By the time I got to the end of the thread I couldn’t remember half of what I wanted to say and the other half had been said by others 😂

Not even remotely controversial 😂 they are unquestionably crap and basically the reason i love the festival but have no merch from it other than the free tote bags

To put it simply: they could do so much better and make loads more money if they had stuff people might actually want to buy

Not really controversial but the drinks / bar game needs to be upped massively compared to other festivals

single use cups still prevail and are a blight on litter at almost all stages

craft beer is nowhere to be seen

carlsberg and any fizzy cider that isnt thatchers is deemed acceptable. (Thatchers is fine imo)

Not enough interesting bars with cocktails, good wine (natty wine anyone?)

what little cask ale there is, is very warm and not on hand pump. Gravity pour from cask = get in the bin

Good job you can bring your own

some of the above can be explained by sheer scale of event and desire to have as little branding as possible, but still

I agree with the improving their beers. I've not been to this bar, but I do think the festival are trying to up their game.

The Elephant Barhttps://www.bristolpost.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife/glastonbury-festival-2019-bars-drinks-3016184

Next stop is the brand new and eye-catching Elephant bar, which is located near the Pyramid Stage.

You can't miss it, as two giant elephants stand guard, while refreshing craft beer and DJs await those who dare to discover this bar’s secrets.

Serving a range of world craft and European beers including brews from Brooklyn New York and London Fields, this is sure to be a great addition to the festival.

Good thread here too:

Unpopular opinion

There are a few people who arse kiss the festival and the Eavii no matter what, like they're above any kind of criticism. I fucking hate it. If Emily was at the entrance cutting their bollocks off with a butchers knife as they were coming in, they'd say "it's brilliant how you keep that so sharp, Emily, I barely felt it". If you love something, you need to criticise it and hold it to account (and THINK FOR YOURSELF!!), or it'll go to shit. I even find myself being extra critical of things unnecessarily just to wind these people up, and I hate that too. I hate myself. I hate you. Fuck off.

This reads like a cry for help.  Did "Emily" hurt you? Are you OK?

Glastonbury, and festivals generally, are best attended alone.

When I've gone to festivals with other people, it feels like a third of the time is spent in admin. Looking for people in a crowd ("We're about ten meters from the front, in line with the speakers on the left", or something similarly vague), hanging around outside the toilets waiting for one of the group to relieve themselves, going to see acts I couldn't care less about just to experience things 'as a group', and staying up to talk about our days rather than going to sleep because I'm absolutely shattered.

I’m a big believer in this, in theory.  The perfect scenario is obviously to have a mate or a few mates that are on your exact wave length but that’s very unlikely - particularly at Glastonbury where the music is so varied. I often go alone to day festivals and if I go in a group, I will happily ditch them to make sure I’m in good positions to see the bands I want to see.  When I was younger and went to Reading Festival, I would often spend the days alone to make sure I saw everyone I wanted to see whereas my friends were more interested in drinking in the campsite.  I was so obsessed with Arcade Fire in 2010 that I spent the entire Saturday on the barrier and saw none of my friends the whole day until they finished haha.

However, I do prefer to go to festivals in a group overall if not just for the mornings and late night stuff.  I’m not sure I could attend a 5 day event like Glastonbury on my own - I think I would find that very lonely to be honest but it would be interesting to hear others’ thoughts on that.

Not bad. One bar near a stage i rarely go to selling carlsberg’s brands of craft (brooklyn, london fields)

Do better glasto. Stick them on every bar and thats the beginnings of a start

I don't fit in at The Park. I'm a grey haired 46 year old. This year will be my 16th Glastonbury & while I like The Park I feel like all the young beautiful people are there & I feel like a tourist. I also feel like everyone's mum. (It's also what makes Glastonbury so good -  accommodating everyone's tastes, not staying the same, constantly changing).

Going with Camp Solo is ideal.  You have people to chat with around camp.  You can arrange to meet those that want to see the same things as you, you can share your stories the next morning etc.  But don't have to make any excuses if you just want to bimble around on your own.

I'm much older than you and have never felt this and feel sorry that you do.  There are much older people than me around.    Although sometimes youngsters do seem to adopt me as their mum I genuinely don't mind!

I can usually find something good to drink, no problem.  Mind you, I think I'm still thankful 20 years after V that there is any ale rather than crap overpriced lager with queues of half an hour.

The bar in the Theatre field has had interesting brews for a while now, and there's also Tricketts at the top of the Park. If these places with more specialist selections were turning over masses I'm sure it would have been expanded, so presumably they haven't.

While I totally agree there should be a better selection everywhere, I don't know any festival that manages this. Latitude is just down the road from Adnams, but has the same rubbish selection, save for one small craft beer bar; APE is in hipster East London and again has a pretty poor selection (albeit one mass produced IPA), save again for one craft beer bar.

And the fact that anyone who cares brings their own cans is going to have an effect. Most of the bars are there to sell cold pints of standard stuff.

Pfft... 46, some of us dream of being 46 again.

Lately, yes. The t-shirts used to be so much better. In terms of both quality and style.

Used to be so much thicker. Now they're so thin you put a hole in them when you get an itch. Presumably done to keep the prices stable.

And I know they're trying to brand but they've started to look a bit samey year after year, reusing fonts and palletes. They were way more divergent year on year in the past, with each years design looking nothing like the previous years.
