I put that down to being 19 years older and not an invincible teenager any more. I was there all four years and 2007 was the worst by a long shot. Objectively speaking, I'm not sure how to rank the others. 2016 was the easiest for me because I had much better boots and knew how to cope with mud. Also, there were far, far more places to sit down in 2016 - in the 90s if you couldn't sit on the ground, then you couldn't sit down at all. Besides, in 2016, there was just more to do, the festival used to be more about chilling out, rather than being permanently on the go. I was quite happy to keep zipping around the site. 97 was a nightmare to get around, and 98 rained more, but somehow I preferred it, because wet mud was easier to navigate than sticky mud. And anyway, I had a cold/flu so spent loads of time in the tent listening to the pyramid stage.

I was going to go with a mate but we dithered too long about getting tickets and it eventually sold out before we got our act in order. Don't think the headliners were all that in '94 (*checks notes - Levellers, Elvis Costello and Peter Gabriel) but also on El Pointo were rage, Nick Cave and the mighty Johnny Cash, whilst The Manics, Beastie Boys, Bjork, Orbital, Blur, Radiohead, Pulp and Oasis were all on the NME (Other) Stage. We ended up going to the Phoenix Festival to witness The Wonderstuff, Carter USM, Weller, Ned's Atomic Dustbin et al. i jumped the fence in 94 (along with half the country) i remember very little of it so must have been a good one. rwhitehouse13
I would say 2009 I think...just to see that Blur set. I remember watching it on TV and deciding right there that I had to get back to Glastonbury after not going since 2000...mainly because life got in the way...a close runner-up would be '94 because that line-up is ridiculous...I was probably just too young then. As for the comments on muddy festivals, I was at '97 and'98 and both were the worst I have experienced...'97 was my first ever festival so not sure I cared so much and '98 was hit by massive rain showers which made it pretty hardgoing. 2016, by comparison, was a doddle, although being older it didn't feel like it at the time! irnkrtn
It's wild how things that seemed very normal now have full nostalgia around them. I used to work a cash in hand weekend job during college. Two weeks before Glasto, cash from boss, walked into HMV opposite our shop and bought my ticket. Week before, cash in pocket, spending money!
