Rail Strikes announced

My wife now has major travel problems if strikes go ahead as planned. She’s a teacher and has managed to get Friday and Monday off which is great but can’t leave til 4pm onwards on the Thursday evening.

Her plan was a train Wakefield to London then onto Castle Cary arriving late Thursday night. Stop off in Castle Cary and then early shuttle to festival site. 
However we are not shit out of ideas, anyone happening to be travelling down Thursday night from anywhere up north?? Or have any other ideas/solutions?

Check out National Express coaches. They are running lots of routes to Gladtonbury on the Thurs

I feel glastonbury need to get their finger out and make a statement and sort some stuff out for people

Just saying 'there's a strike, up the workers, make alternative arrangements ' isn't enough given how people have kept the festival afloat the last 2 years by keeping hold of tickets.

They are just people running an event, it’s on individuals to sort it out for themselves.

As @lebenskisays National Express have tickets available. Not from Wakefield though but you can get the 110 bus to Leeds bus station which is the same building that the National Express departs from.

Small issue though, Arriva buses are currently doing their own strike action in Yorkshire. Hopefully that should be resolved shortly.

Quite. It isn’t Glastonbury’s fault that the government are doing their best to cripple the country’s public transport infrastructure.

Yea that was our 1st look, can’t find any that leave from anywhere near Wakefield from 4pm onwards unfortunately.

Yes. It’s not like the festival can or should just magic money up to come solve it for people travelling from around the country. Just isn’t feasible

There have been some very helpful suggestions on here for alternative public transport. Hopefully people will be sorted without taking a financial hit. It’s a crappy position to be in 10 days out.

Look, you're obviously just board and trolling people, but just in case you are actually serious and have missed it:

THERE ARE TRAINS TO GLASTONBURY ON WEDNESDAY!

THERE IS NO STRIKE ON WEDNESDAY!

So IF you really are going, and IF your plan was to get the train down, then there is nothing that has changed for you, it cost you NO extra money, your plans are the same as they were before.

2nd point. You are a grown adult (assuming), not sure why this needs to be said, but YES it is up to you to look after yourself, NO it is not other peoples jobs to look after you.

Do you genuinely think people will be ok getting to Glastonbury with a rail strike going on and be more pro union going forward?

Also too late to get a Glastonbury refund. They'll be some people who as a result of this strike who will not be able to get to Glastonbury. The poorest and the international contingent. So it's not minor and people pissed of at RMT for their timing aren't tories.

We’re flying to London Heathrow on 21st, got a hotel booked in Stratford and then a bus to Glasto from Victoria on the morning of 22nd. If tubes are not running it’s going to be a hell for us tourists. Oh well - at least we know in advance.
