TV schedule

Saturday 25th June

5pm-7pm – BBC Two - Glastonbury 2022

Jo Whiley, Lauren Laverne, Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders guide us through a Saturday afternoon at Worthy Farm, day two in the magic fields of the festival. Expect music from across the stages, including South Londoner Joy Crookes making her Pyramid Stage debut, a packed out John Peel tent for Rotherham singer Self Esteem, whose live shows get five star reviews across the board, and Skunk Anansie, who headlined the Pyramid Stage back in 1999. Plus, there’ll be unique acoustic performances showcasing artists from across the massive line-up and the newest member of the team, Remi Burgz, will be getting stuck in, exploring the wider reaches of the huge festival site. There will also be a look at all the different aspects of making Glastonbury green.

7pm-8pm – BBC One - Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo introduces one of the biggest breakthrough popstars of the last two years, Olivia Rodrigo, as she makes her debut appearance at Glastonbury Festival. The 19-year-old Californian singer took over the charts at the start of last year with the release of ‘drivers license’ which reigned at Number 1 for 9 weeks straight. She went on to make UK chart history as she became the first female artist to occupy three places in the Official Singles Chart Top 5 in the same week. Expect all the hits from her debut album ‘Sour’ as she steps out onto the Other Stage just a few months after embarking on her first ever tour.

7pm-8pm – BBC Four - Celeste at Glastonbury 2022

Huw Stephens introduces a performance from one of the country’s most successful new stars. Singer-songwriter Celeste won both the BBC ‘Sound of..’ poll and the BRITs Rising Star award in 2019. Her voice has been compared to Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse and she’s been described by NME as ‘the finest British soul singer to emerge in years’. Last year her song ‘Hear My Voice’ from the soundtrack of the movie ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ was nominated for an Academy Award.  Performing on the West Holts Stage, she’s sure to enthral the audience with songs from her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Not Your Muse’ which was released last year and topped the album charts.

8pm-9pm – BBC Two - Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders guide you through everything that’s happening on Saturday evening at Glastonbury Festival, where it’s the turn of a couple of US artists to take to the stage. Californian sisters Haim return to the Pyramid Stage, nine years after they made their debut and Texan soul singer Leon Bridges who released his third album ‘Gold-Diggers Sound’ last year, performs on the West Holts stage. Also expect music from Australian electronic group The Avalanches who play the Park Stage. Plus, presenter James Ballardie gets out and about in amongst the festival action.

8pm-9.30pm – BBC Three - Holly Humberstone & Glass Animals @ Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders present two performances from artists who have emerged to great acclaim and success in the last couple of years. From Grantham, Lincolnshire, Holly Humberstone won this year’s BRITs Rising Star award and has recently supported global pop star Olivia Rodrigo on her US tour. She first played the festival on the BBC Introducing Stage in 2019 and is due to release her debut album this year.  Oxford’s Glass Animals formed over ten years ago and through constant touring, particularly in the US, found themselves at the beginning of 2022 the first British group to top Spotify’s global songs chart racking up over 4 million play on the streaming platform. Expect an energetic set from the quartet led by frontman Dave Bayley and crowd pleasing songs from their three albums to date.

9pm–10.30pm – BBC Two – Glastonbury 2022

Jo Whiley introduces Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds set from the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival. The legendary Mancunian songwriter finally makes his solo debut, having previously only graced the main stage with his former band Oasis. With a strong back catalogue, including three Number 1 solo albums and a few Oasis classics always thrown into the mix, fans can look forward to a show to remember as the sun sets over Worthy Farm.

9.30pm-10.30pm – BBC Three - AJ Tracey & Pa Salieu @ Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo and Remi Burgz introduce performances from two British rappers taking to the stage at the Glastonbury Festival. First up is West London’s AJ Tracey, who makes his debut on the Pyramid Stage. His career to date has spanned a decade and has blossomed in recent years, with his track ‘Ladbroke Grove’ sound-tracking the summer of 2019 and the release of his self-titled debut album. He has collaborated with the likes of Dave and Aitch and last year put out his second studio album ‘Flu Game’, which featured guest appearances from the likes of Mabel, Digga D and MoStack. Second up in this hour is Pa Salieu performing on the John Peel Stage. Pa Salieu has emerged to much acclaim in the last couple of years and was the winner of the BBC Sound of 2021. Born in Slough, he moved back to his parents' native The Gambia before his first birthday, returning to the UK when he was eight, to live in Coventry, which provided inspiration for his breakout song ‘Frontline’ released in early 2020. The track went on to be the most-played track of that year on BBC Radio 1Xtra and the city continued to inspire his debut mixtape released in 2020, entitled ‘Send Them To Coventry’.

10.30pm-11.30pm – BBC Three - Yungblud & Burna Boy @ Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo presents highlights from a set by Doncaster’s Dominic Harrison aka YUNGBLUD. Known for his energetic and passionate live performances, his debut Glastonbury set on the John Peel Stage will undoubtedly draw a big crowd who worship his raw, vibrant blaze of pop-punk and rock as well as his vocality on the many causes that matter to him. The second performance in this hour is from internationally acclaimed Afro-fusion artist Burna Boy from Nigeria. With his music blending Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae, rap and R&B, he became the first Nigerian with back to back Grammy nominations and won the award for Best World Music Album in 2021. He takes a prestigious slot on the Other Stage where he’s sure to whip the crowd into a frenzy with his energetic performance.

10.30pm-12.30am – BBC One - Paul McCartney at Glastonbury 2022

Jo Whiley introduces the living legend that is Sir Paul McCartney, who returns for the second time to headline the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage a week after his 80th Birthday celebrations, making him the oldest artist ever to top the Pyramid Stage. As one of the founding members of the Beatles, Paul McCartney is a national treasure and one of the most important British cultural icons. In this headline set, expect much loved Beatles classics, familiar hits from his solo career and masterpieces from the Wings back catalogue. Paul McCartney at Glastonbury 2022 promises to deliver an unforgettable and memorable moment in the history of the festival.

11.30pm-12.30am – BBC Three - Megan Thee Stallion @ Glastonbury 2022

Clara Amfo introduces a headlining performance from American rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Hailing from Texas, she began writing lyrics aged 14 and gained international recognition with her breakout hit ‘Savage’ featuring Beyoncé. She made history last year as the first female artist to win the Best Rap Performance award at the Grammys. Having also collaborated with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Marshmello and Dua Lipa, she’s sure to bring her ‘Hot Girl Summer’ to Glastonbury as she headlines the Other Stage.

12.30am-2am – BBC Two – Glastonbury 2022

After the excitement of Paul McCartney’s much anticipated return to Glastonbury, Lauren Laverne and Clara Amfo introduce highlights of the rest of the headliners from Saturday evening. Jessie Ware brings dancing and her joyous sing-a-along numbers to headline the Park Stage, while indie legend Jamie T returns to the John Peel tent for the fourth time after a long musical hiatus. Also, disco-queen and former Moloko frontwoman Róisín Murphy adds to an excellent Saturday night line-up on the West Holts Stage and is sure not to disappoint with banging tunes and of course an eye-catching outfit choice. Plus many more highlights from across the day, an energetic performance in the BBC Studio from London rap-rock duo Bob Vylan and more from Remi Burgz, who will be bringing a taste of the wild goings on of Saturday night at the festival.

There will also be a short film meeting the Ukrainian musicians who are making the journey to appear at this year’s festival. In anticipation of this year’s famous Glastonbury Sunday afternoon Legends slot we also take a quick look at the astonishing career of Diana Ross and the journey that has led her to Glastonbury Festival 2022.

6.45pm-8pm – BBC One - Diana Ross at Glastonbury 2022

Lauren Laverne and Clara Amfo introduce multi-million selling artist and Motown icon Diana Ross as she takes to the stage for the famous Glastonbury Tea-Time legend’s slot. Making her Glastonbury debut, expect from Ms Ross a thoroughly joyful romp through her myriad of hits from across the decades including – Chain Reaction, Upside Down, Baby Love and I’m Coming Out to name but a few, plus of course the customary dance routine courtesy of the security staff in front of the stage.

7pm-8pm – BBC Three - Declan McKenna & Koffee @ Glastonbury 2022

Jack Saunders and Clara Amfo present performances from two incredible young artists. The first, hailing from north London, is singer-songwriter Declan McKenna. He has history with Glastonbury – he won the Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent competition in 2015 aged just 16, and is back again to play the Other Stage this year. Having had huge success with the release of his debut album ‘What Do You Think About The Car’ in 2017, his second album, ‘Zeros’, released in 2020, reached Number 2 in the UK albums chart. Next up this hour is 22 year old Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter and rapper, Koffee. Her 2019 EP ‘Rapture’ won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and, aged 19, this made her the youngest person and only woman ever to be awarded in this category. She takes to the West Holts Stage having supported Harry Styles on tour and released her debut album ‘Gifted’ earlier this year.

8pm-9pm – BBC Four - Herbie Hancock & Kacey Musgraves at Glastonbury 2022

On the final day of the festival, Huw Stephens & Jamz Supernova introduce highlights from two American artists. First up is legendary jazz funk keyboardist Herbie Hancock. Having released over 40 studio albums throughout his career which spans over 60 years, he’s sure to get the Pyramid Stage crowd bopping. Next up is Kacey Musgraves who, despite her young age, is already becoming a legend of country music, having won seven Country Music Awards and six Grammys since she released her first album in 2013. Hailing from Texas, her influences range from Cher to the Bee Gees to Sade and her pop/country crossover songs are sure to enrapture the audience as she performs on the Other Stage.

As the sun sets on the final evening of Glastonbury 2022 Lauren Laverne and Jack Saunders introduce a stellar Sunday evening line-up. New Zealand pop queen Lorde brings her theatrical hit-packed show to the Pyramid Stage, while Years & Years bring the energy to the Other Stage, where the playful singer and actor Olly Alexander certainly knows how to have fun and put on a good show. Glastonbury veterans Elbow also take to the Pyramid Stage with their crowd rousing sing-a-longs.

9pm-10pm – BBC Four - Angélique Kidjo & Jarv Is… at Glastonbury 2022

Hailing from Benin in West Africa, singer Angélique Kidjo has been labelled ‘Africa’s premier diva’ by Time magazine. Her musical influences are diverse and include Afropop, Caribbean zouk, Congolese rumba, jazz, gospel and Latin styles. She’s sure to lift the spirits of the crowd as she takes her upbeat rhythms to the West Holts Stage. Following Angélique is a performance from the Park Stage from JARV IS…,  the eclectic rock band led by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. Formed in 2017 to perform at Sigur Ros' Norður og Niður festival in Iceland, the group was "conceived as a way of writing songs in collaboration with an audience". Their debut album ‘Beyond The Pale’ was released in 2020 to widespread critical acclaim.

9.30pm-12am – BBC Two - Kendrick Lamar at Glastonbury 2022

Lauren Laverne, Jack Saunders, Jo Whiley, Clara Amfo and Remi Burgz are all present and correct for the final few hours of Glastonbury 2022 as the last five headliners take to the stage. Completing the bill on the Pyramid Stage is Kendrick Lamar, one of the biggest names and most distinctive voices in hip-hop. From Compton, California, the Pulitzer Prize winning rapper makes his Glastonbury debut, fresh from the release of his critically acclaimed fifth album ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ which, as he notes on the opening track, is 1,855 days since his last record ‘DAMN’. Expect to be blown-away by a gripping and powerful performance that showcases the MC’s exceptional lyrical talent and music which continually pushes boundaries.

In 2015 I had to miss the festival as it was my son's due date. Fortunately he was born a few weeks later so his birthday doesn't clash with the festival.  That year I watched loads of the bbc / red button coverage.  It was fascinating seeing it all from that perspective and being able to jump between stages so quickly.   I hope I never have to watch it like that again.

Glastonbury really throwing their hat in on O Rod. I wonder if she will headline on her second album.

Wouldn't surprise me. Exact same play they did with Billie. Getting behind these hot new acts from the get go is a great move - get them to fall in the love with the festival and build that relationship. It's what they did with the brit pop acts and they've had decades of relatively cheap headline acts in their back pockets.
