Sure, I'm not saying Wombats would be considered a "get" or a headliner that would make people say "How did they manage to get them?" or anything, just saying I don't really see the reason why they've never been able to take that step up when you look at some of the previous headliners at Tramlines/Y Not who are of similar size/popularity. But again, I'm a huge fan so will acknowledge it's hard to accurately judge how "big" they are because in my world they're an elite booking at any festival.
I would normally agree with this, as a rule of thumb. But seeing them doing Red Roses For Me at Hackney Empire earlier in the year was wonderful. The last few times I saw them with Shane, it was all wearingly predictable; same set-list, same vibe, Rankin sounding knackered on the drums so everything played at 3/4 speed.
At Hackney there was a realy energy of unpredictability and chaos. Spider, James and Jen holding it down while a range of guests came on and breathed new life into every song. Think it probably shows I'm more emotionally invested in the songs than who's playing them.
If they do half as good a job with R,S&TL it will be a fantastic show.
I was expecting for this to happen at some point pretty soon. For me one of the reasons is how slow are other festivals from announcing their respective line ups. I think previous years we got a bigger bunch of names annouced at this point.
And especially at Spain, where BBK and Mad Cool don’t have a single name dropped at this point and we’re coming closer to Christmas.
I wonder what is the reason for that. Harder to find proper headliners beside pop names seems to be a reason for me. Beside Linkin Park i can’t find bigger names on the guitar side.
Might be a pretty good year to rely on pop names this year. We see scandy festivals already jumping on the chappel roan train. I expect some other big pop names to go there in august.
