. I don't buy this "lost their spark" bollox, though it's disappointing to hear last night was a little flat

I'm the same on that bit - I'm sure it's great when you like the music they do but with me not even liking AM I just think for me it won't be my sort of thing anymore.

I mentioned this the other day but I'm not even convinced I like the early music for its musical properties, it holds great memories for me and defined an amazing time in my life at uni (along with loads of other similar music) but if it came out today I really don't know what I'd think.

Re early music, thats the reason lots of young people like them and ask for them to do R&L every year, its still so relevant today regarding sixth form / college / uni

Totally agree with you. Just hope Emily was watching.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t matter. Along with them almost certainly already being signed up, even with their spotty live reputation their name is enough of a draw alone to continue being booked. I mean, they aren’t terrible/a total car crash live - just incredibly boring at times and often seem to be going through the motions.

Just a shame that a band who’s willing to take such big risks like releasing an album like TBH&C aren’t able to put together an interesting live show for the most part and are instead just happy to plod through their setlist like they’d rather be anywhere else at that moment.

Yeah I mean they’ll still get booked and inevitably draw a massive crowd.

I’ll just be elsewhere.

Attended last night. Personally thought AM were in fine form, as were the crowd.

When you’ve got the back catalogue AM have, it’s never going to be possible to play a set list that pleases everyone. Great to see rare numbers such as PA and TWYW get a play.

Roll on the album and UK stadiums in 23’.

I just don’t feel like I’ve seen a spark from them in a long time. Maybe it’s because the last few times I saw them (T 2014 and R&L 2014) they looked like a band who were tired of their own live shows. Their new sets look like more of exactly that.

Can’t put my finger on it but I feel like this mellow vibe they go for now doesn’t impress anyone? Like they’ve given up trying to build up some energy in their live show?

Also the fact that they continue to double down on AM being the album they’d rather be known for than anything else. Maybe they made so much money from AM that it all just doesn’t matter.

They are still one of the biggest acts in the UK, but if they play glasto I will probably try and go see someone else.

Looks fucking great so far based on the (albeit edited) highlights. Voice is brilliant, crowd look like they're loving it. They'll still smash the tour sales and the new album will have a handful of absolute masterpieces.

Yeah not watched any footage but I’m fine with the setlist tbh.

it would be nice to see Flourescent, Certain Romance, Mardy Bum and when the sun goes down, but there’s plenty of other bangers in the set. They can’t just play a hits set when they’ve more recent albums.

suck it and see is a heaping pile of shite album, and it’s weird to see people on here championing for more tracks with it in a set list when they’ve got 5 better albums to pick from, plus a new one.

Whats weird is they soundchecked romance about a week ago, presumably for r&l just for it not to get played

I'm seeing them on Friday night in Portugal, hoping ritz stays and a certain romance is pulled out!

Alex said in an interview with The Big Issue the other day that the setlist is going to be pretty fluid for the tour and they’re going to be chopping and changing.

Think their chances of continuing the run of 100% of albums being UK number 1 has taken a HUGE hit with Taylor Swift’s new record being released the same day.

Mentioned it in the Taylor thread but I would’ve thought AM will win that one, although maybe I’m getting that totally wrong.

edit: yeah, I’m getting that totally wrong aren’t I - Taylor will trounce them.

TBH&C outsold Folklore in their respective first weeks in the UK, but Folklore went on to get 80k more sales total (300k v 220k), so it actually might be close. I'd be backing Taylor though.

I went last night and it was shite.

Hated them at Reading in 09, really enjoyed them at Glastonbury in 13. That seems typical form for them, and because of that hit-or-miss roulette, and the fact that they don't seem to have evolved as a live act, if they do headline next year, I'd probably give them a swerve

AM will win the physical copies battle.

Taylor will trounce them on streams.

If they don’t have any gigantic lead singles from this I do wonder if Taylor would beat them on both.

Massive guitar bands usually do big vinyl numbers in the first week before dropping off as there are plenty of people out there (myself included) who will buy it anyway to complete the set.

I would also imagine that AM will initially have more vinyl available to buy in the first week than TS. AM will prioritise this country for vinyl stock whereas Taylor will be looking globally.

June 2nd and 3rd... The same dates when plans are approved for new festival COSMIC also in Hillsborough Park. (https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/sheffield-getting-new-music-festival-21344577) Run by SGM, who closely tied with AM...

Are AM playing COSMIC, or is COSMIC just a front for AM gig?

If that's not AM, they aren't playing Hillsborough Park. Simple as that really as the only two licences are that and Tramlines.
