DomDom1984
He wouldn't be the first massive act to support someone who they were a fan of. Sam Fender supporting Springsteen is definitely possible. Sharing the stage with the guy is probably something that he'd actively love to do. I don't actually see it happening, but I don't think size is actually the issue, nor do I think it's R&L, who clearly wouldn't be an issue here. Most likely, BST wouldn't want to shell out for a headliner to support someone.

shivroy
Is Billy Joel the last headliner then?
c82588
No, Billy Joel has been announced for months. The update was Daryl Hall being announced as special guest for the date. Anticipating The Chicks as special guests for one of the dates since they are over at that time doing Glastonbury, Cardiff etc but no London show as of yet on their schedule.
amfest12
are they usually announce one speaical guest before the rest of the lineup? hoping for something for Guns N' Roses and Bruce Springsteen days. wonder if Guns N' Roses day will be more "heavy" or "classic".. saw that Skunk Anansie announce few dates, also Porcupine Tree playing Manchester on 29/

I’m 25 and I have not heard of any of those names (other than Blackpink, who I hadn’t heard of until they got announced for BST). It’s probably just be that I’m not familiar with the genre, and I’m not slating the lineup at all but it’s not often I see a festival lineup in which I don’t recognise any of the artists.
WhoOdyssey
In fairness, Caity Baser & Mae Stephens have both had their big breaks in the last couple of months and The Rose are a South Korean indie band who haven't had much success over here (yet). Sabrina Carpenter is reasonably well known though (especially amongst the 14-18 ish demographic), but isn't massive really.
stanh
Only heard of Sabrina Carpenter and Caity Baser out of them, people in the replies seem quite excited about Sabrina.

Eh, Caity Baser peaked at #26 and Sabrina Carpenter at #32 before existing the Top 40 the next week. They’re pretty big, but not massive. Dales
Happt with The Pretenders & The Darkness on the GNR day. A little surprised by the Pretenders playing but a nice surprise. I wonder who else will get added. Do we think The Pretenders are the sub or might we get another big name?

amfest12
not a bad start, Pretenders are good and enojoyed them few years ago but can't say it's the most exciting main sub which they will probably be. happy for The Darkness which I wanted to see and might be fun act. was hoping for The Cult but they are playing somewhere else that day. still hope for 2-3 nice names and wonder if there is any chance for Porcupine Tree that playing Manchester the day before but it's quite different vibe. any of them or Europe, Blue Oyster Cult and Fishbone will be great. now waiting for Bruce Springsteen days announcement as well, only going for the first day so hope there won't be too many good things on the second day 😄 Edited March 30, 2023 by amfest12

A few years back Pretenders subbed for Neil Young in Hyde Park, so a good chance they'll be doing the same for GnR

Fleet Foxes were the direct sub.
