Rock Werchter 2023

In England, Sam Fender is considered by many "headliner level", but outside the UK, he is not that popular.

Well, it is the same thing for Stromae : huge in Belgium, Netherlands or France, but at best sub-headline level in the rest of Europe 😉 (in France, Stromae sold out 3 dates in the biggest Arena of the country (40.000) in just a few minutes)

If Stromae is booked on festivals like Mad CoolPrimaveraSziget or other big mainstream festivals, I'm pretty sure he's gonna be headline-material for sure.

I can't see Stromae being a headliner in Spain at all. Rosalia will headline there and be 3rd down at RW if she shows up (would be immense).

The Sam Fender example is the biggest for me, gutted he dropped out this year as in the UK he's probably about to headline Leeds and Reading. Also like how Royal Blood played third this year, some of my UK friends didn't believe i saw RB > Killers > RHCP in a row, that's an entire weekend here.

Stromae would definitely be a coheadliner at Primavera. Also, he closed the main stage at NOS Alive (playing after The Strokes) and headlined the second stage at Coachella.

So the comparison with Sam Fender doesn't really count. Fender's merely an afternoon main stage act outside of the UK, whereas Stromae has already made a name for himself outside the French speaking world.

From what I understood this year PS is a unique one in that a 1hr Run The Jewels spot was the same poster billing as a 2hr Nick Cave spot, so I guess in the sense he could be one of the 'bigger names' and coheadliner isn't really a thing. Love Stromae just don't seem him as a big name outside of the primarily French speaking countries but I could be totally wrong. Definitely got my ears perked up for RW23.

You are wrong, he is huge everywhere. Not everywhere headliner, but still a huge name wherever he plays.

This comment says enough:

I wouldn't say he is huge everywhere, only in certain countries. I don't think he played any gig here in Sweden for instance and people generally haven't heard of him. He seems big in Belgium though.

I saw Stromae at Coachella when he headlined second stage this year. His show was really good and even though his crowd at Coachella was small, his ticket prices for his Los Angeles concert this month increased up to $400. He is probably the biggest Belgium artist right now so it's not that big of a surprise he is headlining Rock Werchter.

Florence + The Machine confirmed for I-Days on 22nd June. Looking more and more like a strong contender, really hope that she is either a Barn head (like in Classic last year), or that she's combined with a really strong head on the day... Already 2 repeats (if Muse also there), and P!nk at Boutique, this  Werchter summer is looking more & more like 2019...

2015, 2016, 2019 and the fiasco with encore last year

I might be wrong, but I'll repeat my previous post;

"I doubt Florence will do Ireland on Wednesday and Werchter on Thursday so I think (hope) she's out. Might be doing some of the other days, but have a gig in Greece again on the Sunday so it seems like a slightly complex logistic exercise for a co/sub-slot..."

But what about Friday the 30th ? Saturday indeed seems complex with the gig in greece on Sunday, but with a Friday gig, she has a travel day from Ireland to Wercher and from Werchter to Greece, that seems much more doable (I hope I am wrong though).

With the price increase announced for Glastonbury it looks like RW combi tickets could be about the €290 mark this year.

Is Belgium going through a financial crisis too or something..? Our price hikes won't affect RW.

After Corona and the Ukraine vs. Rusland thing I thought the entire world was in a financial crisis?

Don't know when you can call something a financial crisis. But the last couple of months gasprices are at the highest they ever been in Belgium. And prices of electricity are x3 or x4 of what they used to be.

Could be of course, and I have no idea of what kind of rig she is using, but Ireland to Greece with one stop in Europe doesn't sound very likely although I've seen worse. Maybe it's just wishful thinking from my side 😉

The ticket for the Hellfest 2023 on 4 days costs 330€ today...  We can be happy if Werchter doesn't go higher than 300€...

Hellfest was 295 this year so a much smaller increase than Glastonbury. A similar increase would only see RW go up to about 270.

Don't forget, festivals like Glasto and Hellfest can get away with it because the demand outstrips the supply so heavily that they sell out instantly. RW takes months.

I think this will be the easiest Glastonbury sale in years. If you fail in November and they announce a lineup more commercial/pop/rap orientated than this year then resale won't be that hard.

I think that's incredibly optimistic but I'd love for you to be right. Still never managed to go and it's not for lack of trying.

Not saying they won't go up, just wondering why Glastonbury's price has anything to do with it. Leeds Fest for example hasn't suddenly shot up to £300+, it's country and festival dependant.

Leeds fest sells at last years prices before the first lineup announcement iirc
