I'm sure someone must be clicking a button to put it back into the pot at Oxfam?

Yep you would think so but the one I got was outside office hours. Also know someone who got one in the evening 4 days before the festival last year.

One just came up at 13:30.. still a split second too slow... Who is getting them this fast! I have seconds showing on my clock on android and literally refreshing, on the minute and clicking through I am too slow!!

The system is a total joke and rewards those who are able to get onto the web page quickest, rather than people who have a genuine interest in Oxfam and volunteering.

How do you know that the people getting there quickest don't have an interest in volunteering. Their speedy response would indicate to me that they're very keen.

It really just indicate they are in a position to be able to check the website constantly... or have software doing it for them. I'm not in this position and have responsibilities that I can't always shirk away from to get onto the website.

Thats a bit of a silly thing to say to be honest. You have no idea who is getting onto the page quickest... we could use that fuzzy logic and say you arent trying hard enough and they have more of a genuine interest than you.

I was one of those trying and I am a multi year veteran volunteer. I got a spot because I am committed.

Anyone can set up page monitoring software, even I managed it and i'm totally un-techy. You just need to put a bit of effort in to work out how to use it.

The system by design has already given priority to those who've met defined criteria - and so the people you describe either have already got their places, or can volunteer at two festivals this year to ensure they're ahead of the pack next year.

I will say that if this year is anything like previous years, keep trying up until days before the festival and it'll gradually get easier as people give up hope.

I'm pretty sure that last year as it got quite close to the festival places were going up and in some cases lasting an hour or so before being taken.

Just got one for my nephews girlfriend just after 14:00.

I was already "in" from a previous go and just had to press proceed and input bank details 😀

Hopefully as the speedy people pick up the slots it'll leave opportunities for us slow coaches.

Not sure that's entirely fair, as it'd still require someone to be in front of a computer when the checker goes off - plenty of people will have jobs where they either have no computer access at all, or just check in periodically.

I am out for now. Though my niece is still undecided.

I am in no way a techy but just used Distil on chrome and paid for the version on the iPhone after a 7 day free trial (Well my nephew did as it was for him) both me and my wife were logged in and also my nephew and his girlfriend. So people on it when the pings come through.

Last week distill done the job in the evening. Today was just a pure pot luck refresh on the site and no page alert.

To those trying keep the faith.

I’m working out in the rain and checking my phone when I get notifications. Just managed to get back to the proceed page again so hopefully they aren’t done for the day.

I got through to that and was trying proceed on the hour and half hour just in case and it kicked through just after 2pm.

Good luck
