The standing charge changes in March were ridiculous but they're not going up much this time so most of the new price increase can be mitigated by using less. It's still shit though.

The problem is this is when we need to use more though … unless we get a weirdly warm winter

And the 'they all lie' / 'they're all the same' nonsense - pretty much translates to "yes the country's gone to shit but how could voting for something different possibly change anything?" - I saw someone's comment that so what if Boris lies - at least he stuck up for the country - that was in reference to Truss v Sunak, general opinion being they'd vote for Boris again.  Nobody with these kind of thoughts in their heads are ever going to help steer us away from where we are.

So what if Boris lies. He wears a British flag and he’s a proper Brit. He’s on our side! Same as Jacob Rees Mogg, he’s super British so he gets my vote.

Why not. Destroy the country and labour can inherit it. Or the public who absolutely love getting shafted will support them for it.

I know it’s wrong for me to blame the people, but I think there is something fundamentally broken in British society.

People are voting for this. People want this. Nothing will change until the great British public at large stop voting Tory.

Nothing will change until the people change, and I’m not hopeful when you hear the Tory voter base throwing out the whole “well back in my day I had barely any food on the table and froze to death and I think it was good for community” nonsense.

We are fighting a losing war because the great British public at large wants this. Low self esteem, low morale, low class consciousness, feels inferior when they hear a posh accent, thinks voting Tory will make them rich. We are fucking fucked as Muse say.

Genuinely think it will take a whole generation of voters passing away before anything changes.

Just saw this straight before seeing your post

Has anyone watched The Undeclared War on Channel 4? It has a part that makes me see Twitter posters in a new light and calls into question how real a lot of things on there are, and how much is to manipulate public opinion. On the show its externally from Russia but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if some of that is paid for by our own government/its associates to shape opinion too. If you've seen the show then the hashtags are a giveaway.

Worth a watch for those haven't seen it if only for the new way you'll look at social media..

Look at her profile and tell me there's not something off there, beyond her views

Another absolutely mental one. If she is real I bet she was one of those reporting their neighbours for taking more than one walk per day.

Whether it's real or not, there's undoubtedly people out there who think like this.

Even Boris was saying "we're all going to have to 'suck it up', so we can support the war in Ukraine". Must be easy to say, when you've never had to worry about a utility bill in your life!

To be fair, he has to pay at least 5 lots of child support (that we know of).

Saw an interesting tweet on this, has made me think.

No idea why Liz is smiling, she’s about to inherit one of the worst political positions imaginable. She’s going to have the toughest few months in terms of public scrutiny imaginable.

Surely she knows this right? She’s going to get an absolute beating?

Or have the tories already accepted defeat, and now their priority is to destroy the country so labour inherit a mess bigger than they can handle?

It does feel a bit like the tories at the moment are allowing the ship to sink.

Politically the best time to take over is when things are at their lowest. Any improvement, no matter how small, can be attributed to you. Take over when things are good and you get little credit for maintaining the status quo and hammered when standards start to slip.

Last week the guardian had a leaked Labour report saying they expect a potential double digit polling boost for the Tories when she becomes PM. I think she’s expecting that and thinking she’d win a snap GE. They must have immense confidence in their campaigning after the last 12 years.

She might be totally deluded in thinking that but I think that could be why she seems so confident.

People also need to remember nowadays there is no correlation between your success as a politician and the opportunities afforded to you after you leave the job. Tory MPs and cabinet in particular can fail upwards however they like.

Truss could oversee the worst economic crisis in living memory and do fuck all about it and still have a career filled with cushy boardroom gigs, corporate consulation and after dinner speaking until she retires. It's merely a stepping stone into more lucrative financial and capitalist jobs now.

Any bounce could be incredibly short lived once them gas/electricity bills start dropping on people's doormat!

I also was born in the 60’s and we didn’t have central heating until I was 12- it was bloody freezing and no fun with ice on the inside of the windows- we had electric fires which would cost a fortune to run these days and and electric immersion heater for hot water. We had a bath once a week on a Sunday. When the 3 day week was on my dad opened up the fireplace and we had a coal fire that winter! We were so glad when the central heating, gas boiler and gas fire were put in the following year! 😀

when I was a poor student in the 80’s living in a cold shared house with mould and damp ( slugs crawling in the bathroom 🙄) with limited heating so I had to write my essays with gloves on -  I swore ( in the manner of Scarlet O’Hara in GWTW) I would never be cold again! Now I have arthritis and am in my 60’s ( not yet retired) I will keep my heating on if I need it but always put on extra jumper and blankets when at home . am definitely not going to be working from home - work can pay for the heating and electric! Was hoping to take semi retirement next year but might not be able to afford it now though 😕

I shall be using all my energy saving options- batch cooking, short showers, turning stuff off etc - and I earn a decent wage - I dread to think how those on minimum wage and families or pensioners will cope.

Well usually there tends to be a poll boost for a new leader - both May and Johnson had this, as initially did Gordon Brown for his first few months before it all went wrong.

So one wouldn't be that unexpected. But with all the shit that's facing us, this may be biting off more than they can chew.

Might be cheaper to just pay it, assuming it includes solar.... Then move into that rather than pay energy bills.

We're all fucked!

i've no idea, i had an easy opportunity to ask for a price so i asked for one.

Well I was being facetious. But on a serious note, 35k can get you a decent used motorhome, not that old, with electricity, solar, shower and toilet... So that does seem a bit much.

Would recommend an electric blanket, will keep you toasty quickly without needing to heat a whole room

I lived in a cottage like this until last year! Gonna miss the fire heating the hot water and house this year.

Just had my first listen to the new Muse album. The last track is called “We are fucking fucked”. Can’t decide if it’s an accurate assessment of the current global geopolitical situation, or they just became more Spinal Tap than Spinal Tap.

did secure Plymouth tickets for next May, so hopefully we aren’t fucking fucked by then 😂

The gas/electricity bills are not the fault of the government, have you seen the obscene profits the energy companies are making, there's no need for it to be this price.

Only things the government can do are, re-nationalise or very heavily tax energy companies.
