I guess it’s a compromise I know I have to make … my tipple is alcohol and I’m quite happy pulling a can of cider from my bag rather than walking to any bar . Obviously some other fun things might have bigger costs associated … I’ve no idea on that tbh … but I no longer need another tshirt . And actually now I think I’ve got the essential camping gear sorted that I shouldn’t need to update for a while at least … that’s probably my biggest cost

Yeah its nothing exciting for me, just alcohol and food. But i do lose control when drinking and get overly generous and also will drink till im incapable of moving, way past a bit pissed. And im  inherently lazy so food would not be cooked but bought so 15quid plus straight away there.

Im doing e.o.t.r. hoping to do it for 200 all in. Thats the other thing as Glastonbury breeches 300 plus parking then- value as it is- thats almost e.o.t.r plus spending just getting in.

Had to sell green man this year- had the settlers pass so 6 days spending would make it crazy money for something that the music wasnt as strong for me as i was hoping for. 2 tix were nearly 600 quid. Would easily break a thousand. Much as i would've love to do everything i cant.

Saw a band for 10quid last week and it was brilliant. 2 quid for a coke and free parking cos it was Sunday.

A few weekends of this a year will help spread the fun.

Still love a drink but upwards of 6quid a pint out now is definitely changing my entertainment pattern. 4 pack before heading out. Busses or walking back. Not taxis. Im lucky my job doesnt normally start til 11 so ive got time to do this but thats 30quid saved before doing anything else.

Candid moment here, is anyone else just genuinely really feeling the pinch right now?

I’ve had a promotion / a slight increase in my income this year (not much) and I actually feel worse off at the moment than I did over a year ago. Having to cut back on things left right and centre and really think about what I’m spending my money on.

It’s getting very concerning.

I am in the fortunate financial position where I know I can afford to go next year. That said, if things were tight, Glastonbury is the last thing I’d sacrifice. I’d happily not go to the pub or restaurants, forego takeaways, coffee shops and meal deal lunches between now and next June if that’s what it took.

Have you been able to get on any fixed energy tariffs ? That’s the main thing to look at as it’s the biggest cost . I’m not feeling it (yet ) but I’m starting to look at stuff to reduce outgoings . Gym membership and broadband next . If you have sky they are pretty good at reducing cost if you ring to say you are leaving and persist with saying it .

Luckily my energy situation isn’t skyrocketing too much. It’s not really energy I’ve noticed but just the general cost of everything surging. I live in London and I’ve visibly noticed the odd 2 or 3 pounds being added onto virtually everything. All stacking up!

If I get a ticket I’ll be going and making sure I can afford to do so. If it means sacrificing a couple of takeaways and a few beers each month it’s worth it.

So is that basically a year of doing nothing 'fun"? That would kill me. (Well it would make me so miserable my depression would kick back in and i would wish for death anyway). I know again that its all sorts for all people but my lifestyle at the moment needs little rewards often to keep me vaguely balanced

I absolutely take my hat off to anyone who is able to focus on the big one

It’s really tough … I pick home shopping and about 1 in every 6 customer picks is the value range , where previously at a guess it was more like 1 in 20 . People are really starting to feel the pinch now and that’s before the worst of it .

People shouldn’t be embarrassed to be struggling unfortunately that’s the way things have gone now and there will be so many that it’s impacting … sounds daft but there are always sympathetic ears around here if people require it

As said above, saving now means you only need to put away £40 a month to cover a ticket.

With beers being around £5 a pint these days and £10 for a pizza or curry it doesn’t take much of a sacrifice to cover the ticket cost.

I’ll still be enjoying myself, just not to my usual excess.

You need to make sure you look after yourself mate before taking on other peoples problems (i know you are a large hearted soul but make sure you are ok. As you know things can overwhelm from nowhere). You are a true gentleman and caring soul but dont give too much of yourself

Cheers … the community is pretty good .. it got us through the tough times of covid and we will get though this too . Sometimes it helps to share these things  . Which covid threads taught us early on .

Yeah ive got about 100quid a month for non essentials cos bad life choices earlier in life so 40quid really bites into it.

Instead of drinking out, for the equivalent of two pints you can get a 10 pack of beer and drink in. I’m quite happy doing my socialising indoors. I found a good group of people to chat to so I don’t feel the need to be out every weekend.

As for the festival itself I take as much alcohol as I can physically carry.

Sounds like volunteering is the way forward for some people on here.

It has few cons, you may get a shift where you have to miss a favourite artist, or you may end up in a dull location, but it also has many pros, better camping, easier access to showers etc.

If you can spare the extra day or two I recommend it. IMO overall it's a better festival experience and you'll get to learn a  bit more about how things work.

I'm lucky in that I don't have to work during the event, just from the Saturday before untill midnight Wednesday.

I’d agree with that and if lucky on ticket day we will be there. There’s quite a few things that you mentioned I’d gladly forego if it meant I could get to Glastonbury. I suppose it all depends how strong your love and commitment to the festival is and what sacrifices you are prepared to make.  However personal circumstances are going to be a huge factor in the coming months, This cost of living crisis is going to take a huge bite out of folks disposable income and that thatcher wannabe Truss knocking  a few pennies off income tax won’t make any difference.

Thanks for answering

I kind of know all this but struggle putting it into practice. Maybe if i get a ticket i can focus more. And if i fail and cant afford it i give it up in April.

I am a low wage healthcare worker, but festivals are an absolute priority. I will do without other things. It is important to have the festival to look forward to. Mind you, this year I didn't have a ticket, so went with Oxfam. I will try for a ticket in October, but will happily do Oxfam again if I fail. You obviously miss stuff when working, but it is also a big saving, getting your money back after the summer.

I think I’ve just found different ‘fun’ things to do that don’t cost as much money every month / week . Not had a takeaway for months and it hasn’t bothered me and not nipped to the pub , but had plenty of fun cheap nights out sitting on the beach / going for a swim and taking my own food / drink … I think I’m just adjusting to a different kind of fun

$26. But its comically big. Man vs Food stuff.

Yeah, but I hate that their assholes about it and say no splitting the sandwich when you easily could if you just ordered take out.

Oh, and there shouldve been an international option? Cause we gotta pay a fortune to go since its not just the ticket thats the issue, its everything else.

For the international contingent, we have the cost of flights to consider as well, which are currently much higher than normal but will hopefully come down in time.

I'm used to not doing Glastonbury every year, but that's mainly coincided with fallow years/Covid. I did '14, '15, '17, '19 and '22. Now we're in a new cycle with a fallow year way off, it'll be harder not to go. But given I like to be home for Christmas as well, visiting twice a year is expensive, uses up all my annual leave, and means I don't get to holiday anywhere else.

As my parents get older and my time with them becomes rarer and more valuable, I'm likely to do the twice a year journey more often, but for now I anticipate taking one in three off (if I'm lucky enough to get tickets). That will inevitably be the year the acts I most want to see will headline, just wait and see.

Devil's advocate: if you come from Europe you may spend the same/less than someone coming from... I don't know... Inverness!

The dollar is quite strong now too so may factor in (noticing a bunch of Americans over here right now...)

But yes for transcontinental, that's a a massive cost...

I’ll do what it takes to afford to carry on doing the things that mean the most to me, Glastonbury being right up there. Fortunately I’ve already virtually stopped drinking at home so that alone equates to the cost of going, and for other reasons am cutting back lots on live gigs. I’ve always averaged about one a fortnight and I’m thinking I’ll be saving the cost of about 2 Glastonbury trips by next year.
