I would LOVE McR lol, and fyi , a lot of 20 years old know McR, I've been to their show in Paris last June, daaamn I couldn't believe my eyes, so many 20 years old knowing them ! 😮 They're unique in their genre ^^

As much as I like MCR, I can't see them headlining (don't think they accept smaller position) Sziget for two reasons:
1) They played 11 000 capacity venue in Budapest this year and there were approximately 5 000 to 6 000 people, you could easily buy your ticket at the entrance;
2) They were supposed to play Volt Festival in 2020 and weren't rebooked for the 2022 edition, probably also due to poor sales.

Would Kings of Leon, Tame Impala, The National or FLORENCE do better..? Not sure lol 😉

Plus, McR sold out in England, France and Germany, and many people come from those countries, so it is not that impossible, especially if they're headlining R&L. Also, don't forget there might not be many other possibilities for the slots

(P.S: for the 2), most of the Volt 2020 line up wasn't rebooked, they took Hungarian artists, look what happenned.. no more Volt)

Which bands from the UK could headline Sziget realistically (expected to be on tour in August)?

Biffy Clyro and Placebo are not headline names here, Muse and Killers were here in Hungary last year (and have been ruled out as far as I can see). So if "UK bands" are being considered it has to be Blur specifically. Do you guys now about any UK bands that are likely?

If we mention potential US headliners that's a bigger pool as Blink-182 and Queens of the Stone Age are confirmed to tour in Europe next year, while Green Day is also super likely to tour as their new record is expected to be released next year. The problem is that in the last 20 years they haven't really toured Europe in August, they've done two R+L "specials" in 2004 and 2013, but they're rarely in the area that time of the year. They did play at Sziget once, but that was almost 25 years ago.

Paramore is a band that's also expected to tour in Europe in August with their new record, their last US date is 2 August, so 14 August is a possibility. The question is that is Paramore still on the level where they could headline Sziget. I believe they could be, but it's difficult because of the calendar and their popularity, or the lack of (for a headliner).

Someone mentioned My Chemical Romance, but their future is totally unpredictable. They'll might create a new record, they'll might go back on hiatus, they could decide to do a festival tour. I think they're the least likely to headline Sziget.

So if I've gotta guess Blur and Queens of the Stone Age are the most likely to play at Sziget. Which is sad, because I'm a huge fan of Green Day, Blink, MCR and Paramore.

Here are some other more or less rock band names that I can see headline Sziget:

UK: Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Royal Blood, Snow Patrol, Radiohead, Paul McCartney

US: Jack White, Arcade Fire, Slipknot, Panic! At the Disco, The Black Keys, Fall Out Boy, Limp Bizkit, Pixies, Fall Out Boy, Skillet, Nickelback, Deftones, Tool, The Smashing Pumpkins, Papa Roach

Don't know how many of them will be touring in Europe next summer or not.

The 1975 has to be a possibility, but certainly not rock. Given the direction Sziget has taken I would limit the possibility list to Royal Blood, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Fall Out Boy and throw in Biffy and Liam.

Panic! At the Disco

They are coming to Europe in February/March so can't see them coming back in the summer. I was considering going to Netherlands to see them on 25th February in Rotterdam and Maneskin two days later in Amsterdam but unfortunately Maneskin is already sold out so not gonna do it.

I also believe The Strokes can't be completely ruled out... After all, for 2022 edition, SzigetLeaks also said "no" for Tame Impala... and 3 months later, boom !

So yes, The Strokes = possible ^^

Same for Panic! at the Disco, they are not doing a lot of shows in February-March, so why not.

US bands : The Strokes / Green Day / Panic! at the disco / My Chemical Romance / Pearl Jam

UK bands : Placebo / Biffy Clyro / Royal Blood / The Cure / ( Blur and The 1975 --> pop bands)

(I don't believe in the others mentionned so far, because already here in June / not big enough / not mainstream enough)

Many of them are not on tour in August and BMTH have a show in Budapest on August 21

Placebo and the Biff won't headline Sziget, both were subs the last time they played here and they didn't get any bigger.

Biffy Clyro headlined Sziget at 2013, but its been a long time since then 😄

My guess would be Green Day or any other headliner from R/L

I know, but they were subs in 2017 and they didn't have a huge crowd, I remember I had a lot of space. I had fun btw!
Green Day would be mental. I see Blink182 could be a bit more likely though, who knows. There's a pretty good pool to choose from, fortunately.

Yeah I was there in 2014, it was fun! They were subs as well. I see a bigger chance for them to headline than Biffy Clyro but only because of the nostalgia factor, that their new tour is basically a comeback from a hiatus.

And it's such a unique thing Sziget, it's probably much harder to decide because people are joining from a lot of different countries, Biffy Clyro are pretty much unknown in Hungary, yet they are big enough to headline festivals in the UK where a huge percentage of visitors are coming from. Still, because of the last time, I think they would be subs. Amazing subs, would be one of my favourite names on the list, Placebo as well.
