Struggling to justify more than one August festival so I’m deciding between this, Leeds, End of the Road and Boomtown.

My main draws for this one are that I haven’t been to Hungary before. Lineup wise Baby Queen, Sam Fender, Foals, Jamie XX and Florence are my main draws. The first three are also at Leeds though. Boomtown and End of the Road still to announce.

I worry that I’ll take too long deciding and miss out on tickets to all of them though 😬

You'll have plenty of time if you chose Sziget, I don't remember a year when it was sold out before the full line up was announced. Plus, there's Ticketswap for Sziget, a trustworthy reseller where tickets can't be selled on a super high profit. My mate last year made his mind up about Sziget a few weeks before it started and he bought his ticket for the whole week on ticketswap, it was even cheaper than buying from the official site.

Is he really? Wow, the world really has gone mad.

Why? The guy has fantastic voice and he has many hits. As far as pop artists go it is defo understandable.

And I say this as someone who mainly listens to rock, metal.

Agreed, he has a good voice and some of his songs are great - Latch and Promises in particular. But we're talking about him being the sixth most listened to artist IN THE WORLD.

No, I don't understand that (I've just looked at the stats and Harry Styles is 13th so probably down to Sam having a big hit at the moment as Harry is obviously much bigger overall).

Yeah, fair, I agree 6th specifically is surprising, I would have imagined top 20. Unholy has become a massive hit tho so I think that has pushed him to this level.

It's perhaps more precise a song being most.listened to

Jamie XX has been stinking up fields all summer if that helps you decide.

May i ask how old you are - the festivals you've listed are quite a range of average ages! If your older than 22-23 don't bother with Leeds.

Those are 4 very different festivals in lineups and atmosphere.

Only one I've not been to is Boomtown.

I wouldn't rule out leeds myself, went to Reading in 2021 and no issues and I'm a lot older than your average attendee. I was 47 when I went in 2021. Still a few older ones splattering around.

End of the Road always have quality, stroking the chin bands and a very chilled atmosphere.

Sziget has the best atmosphere, but has the weakest line up out of Leeds and End of the Road. But you will be guaranteed not to be squelching in mud.

If it helps, my daughter turned 18 this year and came to Sziget with us and to Leeds with a large group of friends.

Next year, her and four friends are going to Sziget. They enjoyed Leeds but weren't too keen on their tents being set alight on the final night!

Only ever heard Jamie XX’s studio stuff so wasn’t sure how his live stuff was. A bit of personal experience is useful to hear so thanks for that.

My wife and I are in our mid 30s and haven’t been to any of the festivals I listed before. I had heard that Leeds skewed young but didn’t realise it was as drastic as that.

Thanks for the feedback on Leeds, I do have concerns we may be too old for it. I wonder how much difference there is in the crowd between Leeds and Reading. I wouldn’t be against going to Reading instead if it was more suitable for us.

I haven’t seen the lineup for End Of The Road yet, have you seen it or are you meaning that it was better in previous years?

That does help, there’s no experience like personal experience 😌 I am very drawn to Sziget as a trip over to Hungary sounds much it’s exciting than a drive down the M62 😆

Tents set on fire sounds horrific, I hope her and her friends weren’t too traumatised by it.

So doing a bit of quick math we have had 36 acts announced for 2023. There were 69 (nice) acts on last years poster so still a few to be announced.

My question to those of you who are Sziget vets is what kind of announcement schedule should we expect for the rest of lineup based in previous years? How many of the top 6 names on the below poster were announced post-Xmas? Any of the next five?

Seems to be a lot more in the way of big names on there than what has been released so far for 2023. Trying to figure out if they’ve just gone for less big names or whether they are still to be announced

I saw him at Primavera Sound in Barcelona this year, and oh my god, it was amazing. Since then I wanted to see him again and when I saw that he's coming to Sziget, I was over my head. I honestly can't wait.

Oh wow so some big names still to come for 2023 then potentially based on that.

I thought it would be fun for people to share their live experiences of seeing the currently announced acts live so those that haven’t know what they have in store.

I’ve not seen too many but I’ll start us off:

Florence and the Machine - Saw her at Tempelhof has year and she massively surpassed my expectations. I enjoy her music well enough but she can be a bit same-ish for my taste and bordering on dull. She was phenomenal live though. Had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand with a performance full of passion, power and charisma.

Sam Fender - I saw his headline set at Tramlines last year and it was pretty good. Great voice live, good energy, interesting chat.

Baby Queen - Ended up seeing her three times last year having never heard of her previously simply by virtue of her being at festivals I was going to anyway. At Tempelhof I didn’t know any of her music but I was drawn in by her stage presence and authenticity. By the time we went to Tramlines we knew a good chunk of her set and she’d visibly grown in confidence and put on a great set. Then we saw her at Neighbourhood Weekender in a tiny venue that she was clearly too big for by that point and she absolutely blew the roof off. She will go on to be an absolute megastar, of that I have no doubt.

Excited to hear people’s live experiences with the acts I’ve not had the chance to catch in concert yet…

Foals were fantastic at Glasto this year, brilliant live band and have a set packed full of tunes - great at boardmasters in 2021 too.

Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes are always great, incredible energy and always work the crowd and then some.

Easy Life are great landfill sunny indie tunes, translate quite well live (especially good if they end up in the tent rather than main stage)

+1 for florence, she was great at sziget 2019

I didn't find one good not festival just one single day on any European festival next year worth my visit.

Its certainly not going to be vintage, perhaps it's just artists are recording rather than touring after 2021/2022 festival years post covid.

the american festival will announce their lineups soon and we might get some new namws from them.

who do you think it will be?

i was guessing foo fighters, miley and nicky for the states. can see miley at sziget due...

Frank Ocean and Bad Bunny seem to be the names thrown about the most.

Doubt any of those 3 you said will be headlining, think Foos are just not what they book anymore, miley is too small and they have better options than Nicki.
