Mad Cool 2023

Hopefully the ACDC rumours have stock which puts them in the grasp of British festivals or stadiums too.

I am reluctant to go back after 2018 though, the queue to get in on the Thursday was insane. Basically had to wait to in Spanish summer weather, had our water confiscated before we got to the queue then another 1-2 hour wait. Mess getting out of there back to central Madrid too, no signs or directions to shuttle buses etc, we ended up just jumping in a random taxi. crazy bad queues for bars, where credit cards wouldn't work and there was only 1 cashpoint nearby!

Lots of sound bleeding problems between stages too which I think is why some acts pulled out(underworld?). I think it was a new venue at this year which doesn't swell me with hope if they are relocating for the third time.

its shame because they put on great line-ups but just poor organisation. People started calling it MadQueue festival.

The amount of people hung up on the failings of 2018. Yes it was traumatic but life has moved on and organisation has improved tons.

Think it was Massive Attack. I'd been at Franz Ferdinand at the same time so wasn't there for the no-show they had but apparently they refused to play due to being annoyed by stage sound bleed. Mainly transpiring for me in the form of a group of Scottish people chanting "Fuck Massive Attack" for the whole metro ride back to the random stop in the city centre where I had to get a bus to my hotel from.

I think the is the problems were easy fixes for organisational standpoint. The venue simply wasn't big enough for the capacity and what they wanted to achieve

When you factor in flights and hotels (because you can't camp even if you wanted to).

Yeah it's a holiday to Spain, but being up to 2am or later three days in a row (which we knew about but is hard to prepare for), kinda writes off the day time to look around Madrid

Plus festivals are best with your friends and it's hard to persuade a return visit if it's a shit show the first year. Whatever the lineup ends up like.

Yeah your right. It's a shame because that lineup was so incredible that year, I managed to get a load mates to come. But we left sorely disappointed.

I mean I really enjoyed visiting Mad Cool 2018 but I did it differently, in that I only went to the festival itself for Arctic Monkeys day. When night 1 was having issues, I was staying in the city centre wondering around. I had turned up expecting worse after hearing about the issues people were having getting in, then ended up finding it straight forward as most people were going back in for the second time so new wristbands were less an issue. I suspect if I'd been the whole weekend and had to deal with the problems on day 1, I would've had more just cause for complaints.

It's going back after that was the mess, with a crazy long walk back to the nearest metro station and a bus that was a guess on whether it was the right thing to get that I lucked into given it went back to the area around Atocha station, which conveniently was where my hotel was. Lollapalooza Paris the week after felt smoother on that score.

I won't hold against them the idiotic idea I had to get a 10am flight home when I got back to my hotel from the festival at 3am and have to trudge to the airport on 3 hours sleep though. That was on me. And I did contemplate returning for 2022 but just didn't get it booked.

A 3 day fest sounds decent and realistic considering the headliners available.

last year was superb for the 4 days I went but with a new venue I’m a bit more apprehensive. Let’s see what the first announcements are - hopefully something tomorrow with the build up this week

However, knowing mad cool ….. probably not 😂

How do you know? Any hints in the video I missed?

Seen some Spanish journo mention it in on twitter, no reason to doubt it I suppose.. presume it was in the video but not watched it.

AM headlined that year as well but Bilbao is an exclusive isn't it?

Feel like QOTSA headlining this was one of the safest bets on the festival circuit this year. Hope it’s not Travis Scott as I’d be very morally conflicted after what happened at Astro World; and we seen him at Open’er a few years back and he was awful. Just mumbled his way through a few backing tracks, we gave up half way through.

I feel like there’s going to be a new tour thrown out tomorrow with the amount of bands/festivals announcing this week. RHCP are a good shout I think

The Major of Getafe (i.e. the town in which will be held the festival) spoken against Mad Cool moving in this site. So, it is also possible that will remain in Valdebebas, and, as you can see, on the FB official page the location is again the previous one.

It would be preferable for anyone attending that the venue stays the same. However as much as I understand it's the city of Madrid that's throwing the festival out of valdebebas due to some sort of construction/redevelopment. Although they postponed the move once before (due to covid?), so they could do it again I suppose.

A 2018 headliner is returning as well.

So one of QOTSA , Pearl Jam and Depeche Mode.

Presumably QOTSA with them pulling out last year?.

I'll guess RHCP , QOTSA , Travis Scott and a female as headliners

Jack white and AM were also billed as co-headliners that year but my money is on Depeche mode if I had to choose

Yeah, I did the full weekend and the first day was the worst. Although the sound bleed problems and bar queue problems persisted over the weekend

Getting back was a problem for us too, booked a shuttle through Ticketmaster but was no where to be seen or directed too. Had to get a taxi on the first night which cost a fortune and managed to work out buses and tubes on the other 2 days.

AM were shocking that year too, I distinctly remember everyone going mad for teddy picker then having the opposite reaction to their new album of lift music

Depeche Mode are Primavera Sound exclusive.
AM are BBK Live exclusive.
No signs yet that Jack White and Pearl Jam are touring Europe next year, so it leaves QOTSA as headliners from 2018.

Pearl Jam never tour 2 years in a row in Europe. Jack White seems a bit small as headliner with all the bands touring. Queens Of The Stone Age are the most obvious!

when did Qotsa become headliner size ....at their peak of know one knows they were not headlining festivals...find it strange their rise.

like them, they are mixed live though, twice they have been fantastic, twice they have been woeful

they normally headline a lot of mid sized festivals and festivals with multiple headliners, like Werchter and Mad Cool. They're a good size where they compliment another headliner despite not being absolutely massive.
