I thought this year's Silver Hayes revamp was pretty universally well-received? Sure, still room for improvement but vastly superior to the moody soundbleed-fest of the last 6/7 years

I meandered through a few times as i was camped in Oxylers. It just seems a really sparse area that was spread out and never really full. Like a dance overspill area.

Don't know what's happened, I remember it being busy (if a bit "Human Traffic") in recent years.

Gun to my head, I'd say Arcadia.

I often like the acts that go on there but it's always rammed, even from a distance. The spider's awesome but probably costs a ton to run that area.

Same here.

Anyway hopefully the Arcadia crew won't be invited back due to their involvement with the Qatar world cup.

Yeah I agree. I have to admit I'm a little surprised they haven't pulled out of the World Cup. But then outside of this forum and Glastonbury goers, who else would even know who they are, let alone create any kind of backlash?

I just think the festival have too much invested in the project to pull it ....

I'd imagine the backlash, and the negative stain on the festivals reputation, has only just started to show itself.

Once the World Cup gets underway then the Arcadia event will be covered by every media outlet in the country - some painting it in a negative light, some in a positive light - but always with Glastonbury at minimum mentioned and usually implicitly linked - all at the same time that some of the teams and players are visibly protesting to draw attention to the various issues surrounding this cursed tournament.

It's an absolute shitshow for the festival. It already hasn't been great in PR terms, and it's going to get a whole lot worse.

The Spider, the Afterburner and the Bug will be in Doha, Qatar for a month long installation during the World Cup. This is an independent event with no affiliation to Glastonbury Festival.

Arcadia have tried to distance themselves from Glastonbury re Qatar, but of course the media are unlikely to be aware of or pay any attention to this.

Arcadia was founded by creative engineers Bert Cole and Pip Rush, both inspired by nature and driven to unite people for positive change.

Arcadia have done some good stuff around the world and presumably hope that somehow by appearing in Qatar they can "unite people for positive change", but will they actually make a difference in Qatar, are they hoping/expecting to make a difference or is it just for what will presumably be a huge amount of money.

Maybe they intend to use this cash to further the good cayses or maybe they just don't care.

Who knows!

If it’s the former then the only thing spectacular about Arcadia Spectacular is the naivety.

I wonder what - if any - chance there is of this happening.

I would like to see their slot open for offers whenever their contract expires. Needs some new blood. Doing the same thing with a different pile of aerospace/Industrial salvage just doesn’t seem special any more.

Agreed. Qatar has one of the highest per capita GDPs in the world. In my experience it’s citizens are extremely well travelled and aware of the wider world.
