Calling Coldplay, Dua and Madonna weak is the most ridiculous sh*t I've ever read on these forums. And A7X, FOB, and QOTSA are also strong - all arena touring bands. I'd love for anyone to explain how any of those bands are poor bookings.

Someone needs to rattle people while Chad is away 😂🎣

I think Reading are going to get Limp Bizkit next year. South America early 2024, not in Europe early summer and would not need any dates announced yet to be at Reading. Imagine Reading got Avril and Limp Bizkit.

Would be brilliant if they managed to get Blink, Avril and Limp Bizkit.

Well in 2022 when the festival last sold it's best, they had BMTH and Enter Shikari on the same day. I would say Blink and Paramore are going to be there. Bands where Avril Lavigne and Limp Bizkit would not look out of place especially in the case of the time and cross appeal then for them. I am fully expecting now Sum 41 to be announced for Download even though Austria to Download over 1 day and performing is a lot but they also fit the mould of those bands, plus Sum 41 and Avril are playing the same day at I-Days because that's where the ticket market is. That is the kind of day I would attend.

if that does happen it might beat my experience at Wireless Friday and Gunnersbury park in the summer

Well Avril is going to play an English festival, and although while she's around I still think Glastonbury is possible, she's not going to do that exclusively, She may however take that title as a West stage headliner at Reading. Limp Bizkit are touring but if they are playing later festivals or at least nothing that is announced yet then we wouldn't know yet anyway.

Dua Lipa is not big enough for Glastonbury. She's a zeitgeist pop singer that will be an afterthought in 10-years.

Coldplay are f**king huge and timeless. Them alongside Madonna is what Glastonbury is about. Dua Lipa though? Lol.

It's like having Katy Perry, Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Little Mix, Charli XCX in the past.

Or maybe Glastonbury means something to me, that you can look at any headliner and think that they are/will be legendary status, and will be enjoyed by both the 70 year olds and 17 year olds in the crowd.

f**k it, get Rita Ora, Bebe Rexah, Anne-Marie up there.

I'd have thought acts like Taylor Swift, Adele etc are Glastonbury headline size. Dua Lipa is a Friday MSE at Reading size.

such a stupid comparison, dua lipa is worldwide famous and is so much bigger than any of the acts you listen, Charli xcx? little mix really.

if you a man of stats then all you need to look at is the difference in the charts

Dua Lipa 27 singles in 8 years, 4 number 1's, 7 others in the top 10.

Like I said, she is a zeitgeist current pop singer. She isn't internationally renowned, in fact only 4 of the 27 singles have broke the US top 10.

In fact the only song with international recognition is the one bolstered by the legendary Elton John.

That's like saying BMTH are big enough to headline because their song with Sheeran got to number 1.

Good job it's a British festival then, innit?

Also she's literally the 10th most streamed artist in the world on spotify rn. That's only gonna go up when she starts dropping this new material.

It isn't exclusively British though is it, its more the flagship event for British events on the worldwide stage. Hence I used examples of British zeitgeist pop girls that came and went, were huge in discussion at one point and now are nothing but a popworld boomer boogie.

Her new album may escalate her worldwide, that will have her talked about in terms of Swift, Adele, Madonna etc. As it is, we seem to just be doing what we do every year when we escalate the size of acts in our minds and then justify it - Yungblod as a headliner 3 years ago, Don Broco subbing last year, Frank Carter as a headliner back in 2018.

Avril Lavigne MSW headliner?!

f**king hell heard it all now

We desperately need some new stars with decent catalogues of music, we can be having this type of thing!

(And I say this as someone who bought her first LP back in the day)

On this note, looking back who is the weakest Glastonbury headliner of the last 15 years

The Verve or Mumfords for me

If she can play Ally Pally 2 nights then what is the difference to Foals who essentially subbed the festival this year.?

Last 10 years punching well above:

2013 - Mumford and Sons

2014 - Kasabian, Arcade Fire

2015 - Legendary headliners: Kanye, Foos, The Who - this is insane

2016-23 - none

if you genuinely can’t tell…

One is a band who slowly made their way up festival billings releasing a number of well received LPs, that spawned a variety of hits that pack out a nice and varied set list

The other is a one (two to be fair) hit wonder pop star who peaked over 20 years ago, enjoying a nostalgia led revival, helped by grifting away on the mini pop-punk revival pumping her self out to feature on any record she can

Seriously you sell out two nights at Ally Pally and you’re headlining Reading off two songs you release 20 years ago?!?!

An hour and a half of Avril Lavigne?! What would we all be doing for 84 minutes?!

Ye gods!

Yeah you're mad if you think Avril only has two songs. She's playing higher than 3rd.

Fontaines DC and Charli XCX have sold out Ally Pally. They aren't heading.

She sold it out twice, Fontaines DC played 3rd down doing it once.

By 3rd down you mean 6th. That sounds about right
