Interesting report claiming The 1975 are headlining in 2024. I’m aware it’s highly unreliable as the source is The Scum. Thoughts?

I’d not rule this out, as much as Supre says it’s unreliable they have actually got headliners right pretty early before

The 1975 or Coldplay, Taylor Swift and Kate Bush.

One smaller/ friends of fest act to compensate for two huge ones.

NO CHANCE ON KATE BUSH.

They've also claimed Eminem and Madonna were being lined up this year.

Them not being booked because The Arctic Monkeys were, as it says in the article, makes no sense. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if they crop up.

Emily has more or less confirmed it's at least 2 female headliners, one booked and one close to agreeing a deal.  I reckon the "one close" is Swifty and there's a good chance she'll give back word and take the dollar, adding more of her own dates.  Dua Lipa for the other one?

No clue on the third.

I think Dua Lipa is a cert.

I'm wondering whether we now won't see Taylor in 2024 as she continues to tour Eras - presumably that will run into next year with UK dates being summer time for stadiums. 2025 for her? Madonna could be the one that they're trying to lock down.

I do think the third headliner will be a band of sorts. The 1975 would fit the bill and they'll (presumably) have less UK fests next year compared to what they do this year.

I find it unlikely The 1975 will still be touring then. By that point it’ll be 2 years on the trot. They also have no dates past August so far so will probably finish touring at the end of 2023.

You're probably right - however they're quite prolific with their album releases and so it could be an appearance marking the start of the next album cycle, perhaps with a few single releases beforehand (a la Arctic Monkeys in 2013 for instance).

One of the band members has a baby so I doubt they’ll be starting a new album cycle and jumping on another tour so soon. Matty and George are working on solo projects which implies the band will take a bit of time off.

Really don't think Swift will be next year.

Me neither, but it's not impossible. Given Dua has played before (and I know some would like to believe the journalist forgot or didn't know this, but that's a reach), who else could it be? Rihanna? Unlikely. P!nk? Less unlikely but can you see it?

Might it be possible that Taylor could make room for Glasto 2024 in her tour?

I doubt it, but it's possible. I'm not ruling her out yet.

The Emily quote which said "we hope to have her within 5 years" pretty much screams no for Taylor in 2024. The other thing is that show would have to be modified quite a bit from whats happening on the tour anyway. So anyone hoping its the same 3 hour razzle dazzle on the Pyramid would be disappointed most likely.

Dua, Depeche, Madonna

Dua's already played. Emily said the two women headliners will be first timers.

Tbh even with the bit of info we have about it being two first timer females I’m willing to bet that Dua is one of them. Why wouldn’t she be headlining next year?! Outside of her not having a new album ready, which seems doubtful by that point, it seems like such an obvious slam dunk and easy booking for the festival.

They didn’t directly quote her but wrote “said Eavis” around that attributed quote.

Yep. So it's still a paraphrase by the Guardian - which leaves it either open to interpretation as to what was actually said or  doesnt preclude a mistake on their part.

Where's that quote about there now being a year-long debate on this?

It’s a paraphrase, but it’s also an attributed quote, based on a direct conversation. Not the kind of thing they’re likely to have written because they imagined it. The author being correct feels much more likely than someone speculating they’re wrong.
