2024 Headliners

I was going to launch a slightly bizarre defence of Robbie Williams, I had it in my head that between 1998 and 2003 he had a string of sturdy pop singles comparable in their own little way to stevie wonder or david bowies strings of magnificent 70s albums. but I've checked and errr that's not right. These are probably the ones that rightly or wrongly you could at least argue are great pop songs (released amongst some other real muck).

Let me entertain you

been AWOL for a while... is Madonna definitely out?

No. Not definite. Some sh*t rags published a story that she had fallen through as Glasto couldn’t afford her. But the feeling on here is that Glasto wouldn’t get this far through the negotiations without knowing the cost in the first place so the story isn’t being taken too seriously.

But cost aside, I think it’s very unlikely unless she announces some outdoor/festival dates soon. She won’t adapt her production only for Glastonbury. There needs to be other shows. And right now there are slim choices left other than BST so that’s being watched closely.

Been thinking through the Madonna situation, the story tarnishes the reputation of her and the festival so why don’t they say it’s untrue like they did with the headliners story? Seems to me the most likely reason is there’s an element of truth in it.

She wouldn't give a flying cone bra kidder!

Yes this is key. And tbh realistically it'd need to be a fair bit more than "just" BST - we'd be looking at large outdoor venues in major cities across Europe. So far at least, there doesn't appear to be any strong rumours of that nature since BST was first mentioned a while back. So either her team are doing very well in terms of keeping rumours contained, or the tour will have finished before next summer.

That's why I'm not convinced by the reports that she's out because of cost - there's still a high chance she was never intending to be active and so never in.

if they commented on speculation its all they'd be doing.

her fee/cost might vary dependant on other bookings, lack of other bookings might have changed the costs for glasto so the cost might have got to be an issue long after talks started.

A story like that doesn't make any difference to the festival or Madonna's reputation whether it's true or not.

Madonna has tonnes of fans most of which don't  give a toss about Glastonbury

Glastonbury has tonnes of fans most of which don't give a toss about Madonna

I'm not saying  no fans of either are not disappointed just the vast majority of fans of both will move on easily
