2024 Headliners

I don't disagree with much of this - but think the issue for this year is that (if rumours are true), they already have one "first time" headliner in Dua Lipa.  That will attract a ton of comment about whether she is big enough etc (unjustified in my view - she is undoubtedly big enough).  But to then have a second "borderline" headliner is a risk - it would invite lots of comment on whether Glastonbury can still pull the world's biggest acts, blah blah blah.

Perhaps one of the three slots should always be dedicated to promoting one act to the next level.

Also the festival sells out in seconds every year.. while that is the case I'd happily see them ignore such comments I mean unless somehow Dua Lipa is a disaster those that made them just look silly after the fact.

They generally try to have a mix at the top of the table. Last year the stars didn't really align for them on that, but prior to 2023 you'd have to go all the way back to 2009 for a year without a fresher / newer act headlining.

Not quite the same as what I was saying. For example Billie Eilish is newer/fresher act.

But definitely did not need to do Glastonbury  to push her into the top tier she was already there.

OK. In that case I disagree.

They should always try to book the best possible line-up for the ticket-holders, not use the Pyramid headline slots as an incubator.

I for one salute our new AI overlords.

It would be incredible it it turned out to be right. I can't even figure out where their algorithm would have picked it up from. Surely they're not trawling 14 year old news stories to get a scoop.

There is though mutterings elsewhere that he is lined up to do BST this year.

This isn't a great idea at all

They generally try and push people up every year, but this should not be done with a significant sacrifice to size

Billie is an interesting case, despite her obviously being huge 2022 was her first year of huge festival slots so its hardly like the missed the boat.

Beginning to think Emily's comment about a female American headliner should be discounted. These are the female American artists with new albums expected this year (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2024_albums), filtering out acts that are nowhere close to Pyramid headliner level:

Jennifer Lopez (no current tour dates)

Ariana Grande (no current tour dates)

Cardi B (no current tour dates)

Katy Perry (no current tour dates, previously played lower down so maybe not big enough?)

I'm not convinced any of them make sense, which makes me think the female American comment a while back from Emily was about Madonna but it fell apart. I'll be stunned if the lineup is announced and there's a name which gets the reaction she hinted at.
